Brett Anderson Bio

Brett Lewis Anderson is an English singer who was born on September 29, 1967. He is most known for being the main vocalist and major songwriter for the band Suede. Anderson’s birthday is September 29. Following the dissolution of Suede in 2003, he went on to head The Tears with Bernard Butler, the band’s former guitarist, from 2004 to 2006. He also recorded four solo albums, on which he also played guitar and keyboards. Suede got back together in 2010, and they haven’t stopped touring or recording since then. Anderson’s androgynous look and ambiguous “confessions” about his sexuality caused controversy in the British music press even before Suede’s first album was released in shops. His controversial statement that he was “a bisexual man who has never had a homosexual experience” was emblematic of the way in which he courted controversy and alienated a sexually ambiguous and diverse audience.

In 1993, Suede climbed to the top spot on the charts in the United Kingdom. Anderson earned instant recognition in the UK, but not in the US. He accomplished this by combining the homoerotic posturing of Morrissey with the glam theatrics of David Bowie. For the purpose of performing in the American market, the band was compelled to alter their name to The London Suede as a result of a trademark dispute with the American lounge singer Suede. Despite the fact that songwriting partner Butler departed the band in 1994 during the production of their second album Dog Man Star, the band continued to create work that was critically acclaimed and more successful financially in the UK, Europe, and Asia. One example of this is the album Coming Up, which was yet another number-one for the band. After that, the band went on to produce Head Music in 1999, which debuted at number one on the charts in the UK and in numerous other countries. However, A New Morning was a financial failure when it was released in 2002. After the publication of their “Singles” compilation in 2003, Suede decided to call it quits as a band.

Anderson made the observation that the background of Suede is “ludicrous. Imagine Machiavelli taking Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and rewriting it. A cast of thousands is required for this endeavor. It’s like a baby carriage that’s just been rolled down a steep hill; Charlton Heston should play the lead role. It has never been calm, and it has always been stormy and tumultuous and very close to the brink, and it never ends. I really doubt that it will ever happen.” During the time when Suede was active, Anderson pursued a career as a solo artist. During this time, he worked with Stina Nordenstam, and his guest vocals can be found on the album This Is Stina Nordenstam. In 1995, he also sang a duet with Jane Birkin, which was later included on the “Best of” CD that Birkin released in 1998.

In addition, he was the vocalist for the phrase “You’re going to reap just what you sow” on the charity track “Perfect Day” for Children in Need. Anderson made the announcement in May 2006 on the specifics of his next solo album, which would include 11 tracks and will be released on March 26, 2007. In an interview with NME, he revealed that the name of the album will be Brett Anderson because “…that’s my name, you see.” In February of 2007, the music video that accompanied Anderson’s first song “Love Is Dead” had its premiere on television in the United Kingdom. It was not long before it was uploaded to YouTube. The song “Love Is Dead” debuted in the UK singles chart at position No. 42, and the album then moved up to position No. 54 the following week. Fred Ball, formerly of the band Suede, served as a keyboardist and producer for his record, and on tour, former Suede bass player Mat Osman became a member of the live band. Anderson was cast as Nick Hart to model for the autumn/winter 2007 campaign for Aquascutum in July of 2007.

It was revealed in May 2008 that Anderson’s upcoming second album will have its world debut on July 7 at the Mermaid Theatre in London at a special event. Every person who purchased a ticket received a USB stick with a copy of the record, which was named Wilderness and was given to them during the event. The majority of the tunes on the album were captured live during the recording process, which took place over the course of just seven days. In addition to playing the piano and acoustic guitars, he is joined on stage by Amy Langley, who plays the cello. One of the songs “Back to You” composed by Fred Ball of the Norwegian band Pleasure has Emmanuelle Seigner, a French actress, as a duet partner. After the publication of this record, Anderson went on to release his solo album under his own independent label called BA Songs.

Slow Attack, Anderson’s third studio album, was composed together with Leo Abrahams. Brett Anderson states on his website that he attempted to utilize words in a new manner, as fragments, and hint at meanings and emotions. He says that this was his goal. In comparison to Wilderness, this album has a greater amount of music that is played on symphonic instruments. During the tour, he was accompanied by musicians such as Jim Dare, Didz Hammond, Angie Pollock, Sebastian Sternberg, Kris Sonne, and Amy Langley, who added an art-rock flavor to the tunes.

In September 2011, Anderson released his fourth solo album under his own name, titled Black Rainbows. The album was published by EMI Music Service and was made available via BA Songs. The single “Brittle Heart” was out before the album proper. It was the second album that Anderson had co-written with Leo Abrahams, and it included a return to a rock genre that was more straightforward and geared toward commercial success. Anderson noted that in the process of creating the songs, he had used some of his older favorite tracks as reference points. Some of these records include “Rise” by PIL and “Juju” by Siouxsie and the Banshees.

Saul Galpern, the president of Nude Records, the band’s previous label, revealed to the NME that Suede will be performing together once again. This news came after persistent rumors about the band’s reunion. “It’s a one-off gig,” he revealed of the event, which featured the band in its second iteration. “It’s a one-off gig,” The Teenage Cancer Trust events that took place in 2010 included the band’s performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Warm-up gigs for the band were held at the 100 Club in London and the Ritz Ballroom in Manchester. Due to the success of the warm-up shows, the band was able to book a tour of Europe during the summer of 2010. In 2011, Suede played more festival performances in addition to concerts in the United Kingdom where they played their first three albums in their entirety.
