Tom Koehler Bio

Thomas R. Koehler is a former professional baseball pitcher now residing in the United States. He was born on June 29, 1986. Koehler spent his undergraduate baseball career at Stony Brook University, where he was a member of the Stony Brook Seawolves. 2008, the Florida Marlins selected him in the 18th round of the Major League Baseball Draft.

He was a Miami Marlins and the Toronto Blue Jays member during his six Major League Baseball (MLB) eligibility seasons. Following a string of ailments that have prevented him from playing in a big league game since 2017, Koehler decided to retire in 2020. Now working for Pro Agents Inc., he is a qualified baseball agent with the Major League Baseball Association.

Several Marlins franchise pitching statistics, like as games started, innings thrown, strikeouts, earned run average (ERA), and walks plus hits per inning projected (WHIP), place Koehler among the top 10 pitching performers in the franchise. He is the only pitcher in Marlins history to have ever started 30 games for the club in three consecutive seasons.

Koehler was a New Rochelle High School baseball team member as a student. New Rochelle High School is located in New Rochelle, California. His performance throughout the 2002 season earned him the title of Rookie of the Year. Koehler finished his junior year with a record of 5–1 and 54 strikeouts at the end of the season. His performance that year earned him a spot on the all-league team.

Koehler had a perfect record of 6–1 with a 0.83 earned run average (ERA) and 108 strikeouts in 59 innings thrown during his final year of high school education. Rawlings named him an All-Northeast, All-Section, and All-State player when the season ended. He also won the spring Athlete of the Year award at his high school and was named the Section I Pitcher of the Year. Koehler received three letters of recognition during his stay at New Rochelle.

2005 marked the beginning of Koehler’s baseball career at Stony Brook University. In his rookie season, he appeared in 18 games, eight of which were starts, and he had a record of 2–1 with a 5.68 earned run average and 42 strikeouts. In his sophomore year, Koehler participated in 14 games and made 11 starts, with a record of 4–5 with a 5.17 earned run average. After Joe Nathan’s retirement in 2006, Koehler was the last player at Stony Brook to wear the number 22, which was retired for him.

Additionally, Koehler was selected by the Florida Marlins in the 18th round of the Major League Baseball draft in 2008. At the beginning of the 2010 season, Koehler was a member of the Double-A Jacksonville Suns. He was one of the players chosen to participate in the Southern League All-Star Game during that season. In the 2010 season, Koehler made 28 starts and finished with a record of 16–2 with a 2.61 earned run average and 145 strikeouts. He threw two innings, allowing four runs to score. After pitching 131 and a half innings, he concluded the season with a 5.40 earned run average and 13 strikeouts.

In the last game of the season against the New York Mets, he made his first start in Major League Baseball.
