Theo James Walcott born March 16, 1989, is an English professional footballer who plays as a forward for Premier League club Southampton as well as the English national team. Walcott is a Southampton Academy product who began his career with the Saints before joining Arsenal for £5 million in 2006. His quick pace and ability to cross the ball Walcott was born in Stanmore, London, but raised in Compton, Berkshire. He went to Compton Church of England Primary School and The Downs School, where he played football for the village team and later for Newbury. Walcott was a member of Southampton’s youth team that reached the FA Youth Cup final against Ipswich Town in 2004–05. In addition, at the age of 15 years and 175 days, he became the Southampton reserve team’s youngest player when he came off the bench against Watford in September 2004 He did not, however, appear in the Premier League, and Southampton was relegated to the Championship at the end of the 2004–05 season. Just two weeks after graduating from high school, Walcott joined the first-tour teams of Scotland prior to the start of the 2005–06 season.

After coming on as a substitute in Southampton’s 0–0 draw at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Championship, he became the club’s youngest-ever first-team player, at 16 years and 143 days. On 18 October 2005, Walcott made his full first-team debut against Leeds United, becoming Southampton’s youngest senior goalscorer after 25 minutes of the 2–1 defeat.

Four days later, he scored again away at Millwall, and the following Saturday, he scored again in his full home debut against Stoke City.  On 11 December 2005, he was named as one of the top three finalists for the prestigious BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award.

Capello admitted in January 2011 that he made a mistake by not selecting Walcott for the 2010 World CupEuro 2012 On September 7, 2010, during England’s Euro 2012 qualifying match against Switzerland, Walcott was stretchered off after being clipped in the build-up to Wayne Rooney’s opener after 10 minutes, sidelining him for several weeks. Walcott came on as a second-half substitute for England in the group match against Sweden at UEFA Euro 2012. Shortly after entering the game, Walcott scored to tie the score at 2–2. Less than 15 minutes later, he set up Danny Welbeck’s 74th-minute winner in England’s 3–2 victory.

Following the game, England manager Roy Hodgson praised Walcott’s “enormous” impact on the game, while BBC commentator Lee Dixon said Walcott “changed the game.”  Walcott also appeared in England’s 1–0 win over Ukraine in the final group match. Qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Walcott started England’s 5–0 win over San Marino but was injured in an early clash with goalkeeper Aldo Simoncini. After receiving treatment on the sidelines, he was substituted for Aaron Lennon and then taken to hospital as a precaution, where he underwent “scans and tests,” according to England manager Roy Hodgson.

Walcott was later ruled out of England’s next match against Poland, he did not start a match in the qualifiers until almost a year later on 6 September, when he played the full 90 minutes in the 4–0 win against Moldova, he also played 87 minutes in the following match against Ukraine, which ended in a 0–0 draw, but he was injured before England’s match against Montenegro and he was still out against Poland, which England won 2–0 to qualify for [needs a citation]
