Terry Bradshaw Bio

Terry Paxton Bradshaw is a retired professional football player from the United States. Throughout his career, he played quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the National Football League (NFL). Bradshaw was born on September 2, 1948. Since 1994, he has worked as a television sports commentator and has co-hosted Fox NFL Sunday since the show’s inception. In addition to his work as a music artist and actor, Bradshaw has been in several films and television episodes in which he primarily plays himself.

In particular, he is known for his role as a co-star in the film Failure to Launch and for releasing multiple CDs of country music. He played with Pittsburgh for 14 seasons, during which time the team won four Super Bowls in six years (1974, 1975, 1978, and 1979). He was the first quarterback in NFL history to win three or more Super Bowls, and he was also responsible for leading the Steelers to eight AFC Central crowns.

In 1989, the year he became eligible for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, he was honored with that honor. In 1996, the College Football Hall of Fame elected Bradshaw to be a member of its Hall of Fame. It is well known that Bradshaw is a fierce competitor with one of the most muscular arms in the annals of NFL history. His athleticism and leadership on the field were two of the primary reasons the Steelers maintained their dominance throughout the 1970s.

Only seven times throughout his career did he throw for more than 300 yards in a game, but three of those efforts occurred in the playoffs (two of which were in Super Bowls). At the time of his retirement, he held the Super Bowl record for most passing yards with 932 and touchdowns with 9, which he achieved in four career Super Bowl appearances. He finished his career, completing 261 passes for 3,833 yards in 19 playoff games.

Bradshaw chose to attend the Louisiana Tech University in Ruston. He is a Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity member and has a solid connection to the university he graduated from. Initially, he was second on the depth chart at quarterback behind Phil “Roxie” Robertson, who would later become famous as the creator of the Duck Commander duck call and a television personality on the A&E show Duck Dynasty. Initially, he was second on the depth chart at quarterback behind Phil “Roxie” Robertson.

Because of his notoriety as a football star in neighboring Shreveport, Bradshaw was greeted with great acclaim when he enrolled at Tech in 1966. This generated a media frenzy. Robertson was one year older than Bradshaw and served as the team’s starting quarterback for the first two seasons (1966 and 1967) before deciding not to compete in 1968. According to Robertson, “I’m going for the ducks, and you [Terry] can go for the bucks.”

In 1969, most professional scouts agreed that Bradshaw was the best college football player in the country. They hailed him as the nation’s most remarkable player. During the 1968 season, he was a junior and led his team to a 9–2 record, including a victory against Akron in the Rice Bowl by scoring 33–13. He led the NCAA in total yards gained with 2,890, placing him first. He finished his senior year with 2,314 yards earned, which was enough for third place in the NCAA, and he led his team to an 8–2 record.

His output dropped mainly as a result of the fact that his club only competed in ten contests that season and that he was substituted out of numerous games in the second half of those contests after his team had significant leads. After graduating, Bradshaw held almost every passing record there was to keep at Louisiana Tech at the time. In 1970, Bradshaw was presented with an American Academy of Achievement award known as the Golden Plate Award.

He was a member of the first group to be inducted into the Louisiana Tech Sports Hall of Fame, which took place in 1984. After another four years, in 1998, he was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame for the state of Louisiana. After sharing playing time with Terry Hanratty throughout his first season, Bradshaw was promoted to the starting lineup at the beginning of the following year.

The 6’3″, 215-pound quarterback had a career total of 210 interceptions, but during his first few seasons as a starting quarterback, he was unpredictable and threw many interceptions. As a result, the media made fun of him for his rural upbringing and the perception that he lacked brains. After struggling for a few years to find his footing in the NFL, Bradshaw finally guided the Steelers to eight AFC Central crowns and four Super Bowl victories under his leadership.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were known for their “Steel Curtain” defense and potent rushing offense, which Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier spearheaded. However, because fof Bradshaw’s strong arm, the team could always throw a long ball, which helped to make opposition defenses more vulnerable. It was in 1972 that he completed what is known as the “Immaculate Reception” pass to Franco Harris. This play is considered one of the most iconic moments in the National Football League (NFL) history.

In 1974, Bradshaw was replaced as the starting quarterback by Joe Gilliam for a short period before regaining his position during the regular season. His touchdown throw to Lynn Swann in the fourth quarter of the AFC Championship Game against the Oakland Raiders in 1974 was the game-winning score, propelling the team to a 24–13 victory against the Raiders. In the subsequent triumph of the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Minnesota Vikings by a score of 16 to 6, which occurred in Super Bowl IX.
