Lil Bibby was born on July 18, 1994. His drug-addict mom was his sole caregiver throughout his childhood. Bibby grew up in a predominantly black East Side neighborhood on Chicago’s 79th Street.
His neighborhood had a bad name because of the folks who lived there who didn’t give a damn about anyone else. Bibby’s drug-addicted and sometimes-violent mother added another layer of difficulty to her already challenging life. His older sister stepped in to be his mother because his biological mother spent so much time high. She didn’t partake in the drug culture, but her sister was one of the drug dealers in the area.
Bibby’s hostile nature is a direct outcome of his upbringing in a hostile environment. His academic performance declined as he became increasingly involved in fights. He was a huge basketball lover and player, both in school and on the streets. He had to stop honing his basketball skills since the local court kept becoming worse.
He started making money on the streets by selling drugs to strangers when he was just 13 years old. He came clean about being shot several times as a juvenile and about seeing several of his childhood buddies rounded up and sent to prison. This was done by him while he was a resident of the city’s slums. He sought to block out his troubles by immersing himself in music during those difficult times.
He also said that reading self-help books during that time had helped him recover and get back on his feet. He knew at the tender age of 16 that he wanted to make a living in the music industry. Soon after, he started composing music with a small group of friends who shared his passion for music and began recording rap on his smartphone.
He started making his first mixtape in 2011, which eventually became his first official release. Lil Bibby is an American hip-hop musician best known for his contributions to the ‘Free Crack’ mixtape series. Despite the city’s difficulties, he was raised there. He was deeply affected as a child by seeing his mother’s descent into addiction. He got his life back on track, and he and a few of his childhood mates started making music.
2013 saw the release of his debut mixtape, “Free Crack.” Kanye West’s “Crack Music” was an inspiration for the mixtape’s title. After the success of his first mixtape, Bibby was featured on the cover of “Vibe” magazine and garnered praise from everyone who read the piece. His ability to seamlessly incorporate real stories into his raps resounded strongly with his fans.
His popularity skyrocketed after the release of his second mixtape, “Free Crack 2.” He has continued to collaborate with notable rap artists such as Wiz Khalifa and Anthony Hamilton. After the success of his third mixtape, “Free Crack 3,” in 2015, Bibby said that he was working on his first studio album, which he was considering calling “Free Crack 4.”
Drake and Jadakiss, among others, were major influences on Bibby. Bibby felt a special bond with Kanye West because West was also a Chicago native. As a tribute to Kanye West, whose song “Crack Music” served as inspiration for the artist, he titled his debut mixtape “Free Crack.” In addition, as Kanye does occasionally in his lyrics, he refers to his youth in his songs.
Critics at the time of the mixtape’s release complemented Bibby for being original in his lyrical delivery and for not sounding like any other rapper. They thought Bibby wrote everything by himself. Soon after, Bibby was featured on the cover and inside of the magazine Vibe, where he was hailed as one of the upcoming rap stars to watch in 2014. Early in his career, Bibby teamed up with other promising young rap acts like Lil Herb and King L to release a mixtape.
Hit-boy, Young Chop, and “The Olympics” handled the music production. DJ Scream acted as the tape’s host. It was a smash in Chicago’s clubs and was praised by critics for its quality music. He had “matured” in his artistic abilities, and “Vibe” magazine observed that he has what it takes to be a successful musician. Bibby’s deep, resonant voice and the robustness of his lyrical and musical compositions won him many fans. The record’s single, “Whole Crew,” was an instant hit at local get-togethers. Other music videos directed by Bibby include “How We Move,” “Water,” and “Tired of Talkin,” all of which were performed by the same singer.
With the success of ‘Free Crack,’ Bibby announced at the year’s end that his next release would be an extended play. As if that weren’t enough, he went on to say that he’d received a call from the rapper Drake, who was eager to express his appreciation for his efforts. Bibby claimed that he added two more tracks to ‘Free Crack’ at Drake’s request, delaying the album’s release.
