American rapper, singer, and entrepreneur Kevin Jerome Gilyard, best known by his stage name Kevin Gates, was born on February 5, 1986. He is now associated with Bread Winners’ Association via a collaboration with Atlantic Records. Islah, his first studio album, was released in January 2016 and reached its highest point at number two on the US Billboard 200 list. Shortly later, Gates addressed the accusations with a song titled “The Truth,” mentioning that the fan had been pulling on his shorts. [39] Later in October 2015, Gates revealed the name and date of his first studio album, Islah, which is also the name of his firstborn daughter and means “to make better” in Arabic. The album’s initial release date was set for December 11, 2015. The album’s release date was ultimately postponed to January 29, 2016. There were four singles on it in total: “Kno One,” “Time for That,” “Really Really,” and “2 Phones.” “Really Really” and “2 Phones” both found popularity in the marketplace.
The album reached at number two on the Billboard 200 list and sold 112,000 copies in its first week of availability. Except Trey Songz, Ty Dolla Sign, and Jamie Foxx, who are all featured on the bonus track “Jam,” the album had almost any guest appearances. Islah garnered a majority of favorable reviews, while Inverse dubbed it the “Best Album of 2016 So Far”. It was “by far the finest single release of his career,” according to Pitchfork.
In promotion of the mixtape, Gates began the Stranger Than Fiction Tour, a 4-week journey throughout the country, in October. Starlito and Don Trip were also on the trip.
