Jake Owen, whose real name is Joshua Ryan Owen and who was born on August 28, 1981, is a popular name in the country music industry in the United States. In the same year that he was signed to RCA Nashville, he also released his first studio album, which was titled Startin’ with Me. This album yielded three singles, all of which peaked within the top twenty on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart: his first single “Yee Haw,” “Startin’ with Me,” and “Something About a Woman.”
His second studio album, titled Easy Does It and released in 2009, was responsible for the release of three further songs. These singles were titled “Don’t Think I Can’t Love You,” “Eight Second Ride,” and “Tell Me.” The title track of Owen’s third studio album, Barefoot Blue Jean Night, became his first number-one success in September 2011. Other songs on the album, including “Alone with You,” “The One That Got Away,” and “Anywhere with You,” also attained number-one status. His fourth studio album, Days of Gold, yielded two singles: the first was the album’s title track, which entered the top 20 in 2013, and the second was “Beachin’,” which reached number one.
Owen has also gone on tour as the opening act for a number of other country musicians, such as Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, Little Big Town, Sugarland, and Keith Urban, among others. On the same day, August 28, 1981, Joshua Ryan “Jake” Owen and his fraternal twin brother Jarrod Owen were born in the city of Winter Haven in the state of Florida. The brothers were active participants in a number of different sports on a regular basis. Jake eventually became interested in golf and began training to become a professional golfer.
He won his first competition when he was only 15 years old. They attended Florida State University after completing their high school education at Vero Beach High School. Jake was unable to continue participating in the sport of wakeboarding after he was involved in an accident while wakeboarding that required reconstructive surgery. He stole a guitar from a neighbor and started teaching himself how to play it while he was in the hospital healing from his injuries. After listening to a guitarist play at a campus pub, he approached the proprietor of the establishment and inquired about the possibility of playing a gig there himself. After some time, he started frequenting the bar, and soon after that, he began penning his own original content as well
After that, he relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, where he went to a bank for the first time to open a savings account. He explained to the bank teller that he was a singer and composer, and the banker then inquired as to whether or not he possessed any records that were for sale. He presented her with a CD containing his previous work, and she then forwarded it to the Warner/Chappell Music publishing company.
Jake Owen soon became acquainted with Jimmy Ritchey, a record producer, and songwriter, despite the fact that Warner/Chappell did not offer him a recording contract. They collaborated with songwriter Chuck Jones to create a song called “Ghosts” that was meant to be performed by Kenny Chesney. In the end, Chesney did not record “Ghosts,” despite the fact that it caught the attention of executives from Sony BMG Nashville, who then signed Owen to their RCA Nashville label in the year 2005. As a result of their advice, Owen decided to change his first name to Jake in order to steer clear of any potential misunderstanding with Josh Turner and Josh Gracin.
Jake Owen made his musical debut with a single titled “Yee Haw” which was released early in 2006. He says that the song was written “to make people have a good time” and that it is an upbeat party hymn in which the narrator expresses his satisfaction with a yell of “yeehaw”. It reached its highest position on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart at number sixteen, and it was the first single released from his debut album, which was titled Startin’ with Me.
This album was released on July 25, 2006, and comprised 11 tracks, all of which had been composed by him and his producer in collaboration. Among these were his solo recording of “Ghosts” and a duet entitled “You Can Thank Dixie” that he did with Randy Owen of Alabama (no related). Following the release of the album, Jake Owen was offered a contract to perform as an opening act for other artists, including Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood. As the second single from the album, he chose to release the ballad that serves as the album’s title track.
In this ballad, the narrator expresses his wish to alter everything in his life. “Startin’ with Me” was his first top 10 hit, achieving its highest position on the Billboard country chart at number six after spending more than thirty-five weeks on the chart overall. In 2007, he also went on tour with Brooks & Dunn and Alan Jackson. He toured with both of these artists.
Late in 2007, as the third single, “Something About a Woman” was made available to the public. During the month of September 2007, he and the country foursome Little Big Town were tourmates of the country duet Sugarland. During this tour, the three performers started singing “Life in a Northern Town,” which is a cover of the classic track “Life in a Northern Town” by the British pop group The Dream Academy from 1985. CMT aired a music video that was filmed at one of their live performances. The live recording of this performance received unasked-for airing, and as a result, it made it onto the Billboard Country chart in April 2008.
On February 24, 2009, Jake Owen released his second studio album under his own name titled Easy Does It. It debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, and it debuted at No. 13 on the Billboard 200 album chart. “Don’t Think I Can’t Love You” was the album’s lead-off single, and it became his first top 5 country hit, peaking at No. 2 on the Hot Country Songs list in April 2009. The second single from the album, “Eight Second Ride,” was a song that had previously been released on Startin’ with Me but was re-recorded for Easy Does It. “Eight Second Ride” reached its highest position of No. 11 in January 2010. The song “Tell Me” was the third single released from the album and peaked at number 35.
