Harrison Butker Bio

Harrison Butker is a kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL). He was born on July 14, 1995, and now plays for the Royals in American football. During his time at Georgia Tech, he participated in collegiate football. In 2017, the Carolina Panthers chose him in the seventh round of the National Football League Draft. 89.1 percent is his career field goal percentage, which places him in second place in the history of the National Football League.

In 2019, Butker led the National Football League in scoring. He is also a three-time Super Bowl winner, having won the championship with the Chiefs in the years LIV, LVII, and LVIII. The moniker “Butt Kicker” is a play on words that originated from his last name and the role he holds. After becoming interested in football as a rising sophomore, Butker attended The Westminster Schools, where he was a member of the football team before he graduated.

When he kicked a field goal from 53 yards, he won the school record for the longest field goal ever. He was a three-sport athlete who competed in basketball, football, and soccer. He won three state championships in soccer, and he was the first chair tuba player for the school’s (upperclassmen) symphonic band for all four years of his high school career. Paul Johnson was the head coach at Georgia Tech from 2013 to 2016, during which time Butker was a student there.

Butker is the player who holds the record for the most points scored in the history of the school, and he served as the team captain during his senior year. During his time at the college level, he was successful in converting 208 out of 210 tries at extra points and 43 out of 60 field goal attempts. He received a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the institution where he had completed his studies. The Carolina Panthers used the 233rd overall choice in the 2017 NFL Draft to select Butker in the seventh round of the draft.

On May 5, 2017, the Panthers secured Butker’s services by signing him to a deal that was for $2.48 million over four years and included a signing bonus of $83,112. His release from the roster took place on September 13, 2017, and the following day, he was added to the practice squad. The Kansas City Chiefs selected Butker off the Panthers’ practice squad on September 26, 2017, and officially signed him. During the Chiefs’ game against the Washington Redskins in week 4, Butker made his first appearance on the field.

In his first effort at a field goal in his career, which was 46 yards, he failed. During the subsequent three tries, he was successful in making the game-winning field goal. Butker was successful in all five of his field goal tries for the game that followed, which came against the Houston Texans. He was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week after converting five field goals during the eighth week of the season. He had the honor of being awarded the AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for October.

After converting five field goals in Week 16, Butker was once again named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week due to his performance. During the 2017 season, he was successful in all 28 of his efforts to score extra points and in 38 of his 42 different field goal attempts. A spot in the 2018 Pro Bowl was reserved for Butker as an alternative. Following the conclusion of the season, he ended up tied for fourth place in scoring with Chris Boswell with 142 points.

However, during the second week of the season, Butker scored a career-high six extra points in the win against the Pittsburgh Steelers, which was 42–37. During the 2018 season, he was successful in converting 65 out of 69 tries to score extra points and 24 out of 27 attempts to score field goals. However, on April 15, 2019, Butker signed a free agency tender with the Chiefs while retaining his exclusive rights. The tender awarded him a contract for one year with a total value of $645,000. On June 13, 2019, he signed a contract extension totaling $20.3 million for five years.

During Week 9, Butker kicked four field goals against the Minnesota Vikings. One of those field goals was a game-winning field goal from 44 yards out, which earned him the title of AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. The American Football Conference (AFC) Special Teams Player of the Month for November was Butker. However, Butker led the National Football League in field goals kicked during the regular season with 34. He concluded the regular season with a total of 45 of 48 extra points converted and 34 of 38 field goals converted.

His first Super Bowl victory came in Super Bowl LIV, which Butker won. It was his sole effort at a field goal, which he made from 31 yards out in the second quarter, and he was successful in all four of his extra-point tries. During the Chiefs’ game against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 2, Butker was successful in all three of his goal tries, including a 58-yarder that tied the team record for the longest goal distance.

A game-winning and franchise record-tying field goal from 58 yards, which ended up winning the game 23–20 in overtime, and a game-tying field goal from 30 yards with time was running down in regulation. Butker had an injury in 2022, which led to the breaking of the record for the farthest field goal. He received the award for AFC Special Teams Player of the Week due to his outstanding performance. After he failed to convert an extra point for the sixth time this season in a game against the Broncos during Week 7.

Even though he had only attempted 24 extra points up to that point in the season, Butker established a new career best for the number of failed extra points in a season. During the last game of the 2020 season, he was successful in completing 25 of 27 field goal attempts and 48 of 54 opportunities to score extra points. During the Chiefs’ defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV, Butker was the only scorer of all nine points scored by the Chiefs.
