Don Lemon  (who was born on March 1, 1966) is a well-known American television journalist who served as a host on CNN from the years 2014 through 2023. During the early stages of his career as a journalist, he served as the host of weekend news shows on local television stations in both Alabama and Pennsylvania. Lemon was a news correspondent for NBC and contributed to the network’s programming, including Today and NBC Nightly News, among others.

In addition, Lemon was granted an Edward R. Murrow Award in the year 2002 for his reporting on the apprehension of the snipers who had been targeting Washington, DC. In addition, he was honored with three regional Emmy Awards for a business story on craigslist and a special program he did on the real estate market in Chicago. In 2006, he started working for CNN, initially as a correspondent. Later, he rose to notoriety as the host of the show Don Lemon Tonight, which he hosted from 2014 to 2022.

He most recently worked alongside Kaitlan Collins and Poppy Harlow as a co-host for CNN This Morning. In April of 2023, he was let go from his position at CNN as a result of multiple on-air controversies as well as revelations of decades of alleged incidences of sexism and misogyny. His father was a well-known attorney who was a plaintiff in a lawsuit that successfully challenged the practice of segregation on Baton Rouge’s public transportation.

Lemon was given the surname of his mother’s spouse at the time of his birth, and it wasn’t until he was five years old that he learned Wilmon was his biological father. His maternal grandmother was the daughter of a black mother and a white father who had French and Scots-Irish ancestry. Although he has a significant amount of African-American ancestry, he also has Creole in his family tree. He received his high school education from Baker High School, which is a public institution located in the community of Baker inside East Baton Rouge Parish. During his senior year, Lemon won the election for the position of class president.

Lemon received his education at Louisiana State University, where he identified with the Republican Party and cast his vote for Ronald Reagan. He went on to earn his degree from Brooklyn College in 1996, when he was 30 years old, with a concentration on broadcast journalism. During his time at Brooklyn College, he worked there as an intern for WNYW. He was a correspondent for NBC affiliates in Philadelphia and Chicago and worked for Fox affiliates in St. Louis and Chicago for a number of years.

During his time at WMAQ, he was awarded three Emmys for his work in local reporting.

In September of 2006, Lemon started working for CNN. He has a reputation for being vocal in his job at CNN, where he has been critical of the current condition of cable news and has publicly questioned the network. In addition to this, he has expressed strong thoughts on ways that the African American community might improve the lives of its members, which has resulted in some controversy. In 2014, CNN gave Don Lemon the opportunity to host a couple of different prime-time series, including The Eleventh Hour and The Don Lemon Show.

After the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, Lemon began hosting a special program every night in which aviation professionals discussed and analyzed the situation. The program was called “Nightly Flight 370.” This hour was replaced by the news show CNN Tonight as a result of a reorganization of CNN’s schedule following the discontinuation of Piers Morgan Live. Don Lemon would eventually become the permanent anchor of this hour, and the program is now known as CNN Tonight with Don Lemon. Additionally, Lemon has been a correspondent for CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live, broadcasting from a city located in the Central Time Zone.

Most of the time, she has done so alongside another CNN anchor, Brooke Baldwin. It was revealed in May of 2021 that Lemon, together with CNN colleague Chris Cuomo, will create a podcast called The Handoff that would focus on “politics and personal” topics. On May 17, CNN Tonight with Don Lemon was rebranded as Don Lemon Tonight. Lemon apologized for the manner in which he teased the rebranding on his show, noting that he “didn’t mean to set the internet on fire.” This was in reference to fans who believed that Lemon would be leaving CNN. Lemon has stated that he “didn’t mean to set the internet on fire.”

In February of 2022, CNN made the announcement that Lemon will be the host of a talk show titled “The Don Lemon Show,” which would air on CNN’s then-upcoming streaming service CNN+. April 2022 was the only month that the streaming service was active, and at that time it released two episodes. It was revealed on September 15, 2022, that Lemon would be co-anchoring a new CNN morning show with Kaitlan Collins and Poppy Harlow later that year. The name of the morning show will be changed to CNN This Morning, according to an announcement made on October 12, 2022.
