Bayley Bio

Pamela Rose Martinez is an American professional wrestler. She was born on June 15, 1989, in the United States. She is presently under contract with WWE, where she uses the ring name Bayley and performs on the SmackDown brand. In addition, she is the head of the faction Damage CTRL. She used the ring name Davina Rose when competing on the indie wrestling circuit during the years 2008 to 2012.

Martinez acquired a contract with WWE in 2012 and was placed on the NXT brand, where she took the ring name Bayley (rather than Bailey, Martinez selected “Bayley” as she is a native of the Bay Area). Bayley is a play on the word “bailey,” which is the name of Martinez’s mother. Her confrontation with Sasha Banks at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn in 2015 earned her the NXT Women’s Championship, and she went on to win the Female Competitor of the Year and Match of the Year awards at the 2015 NXT Year-End Awards. Her victory came in the same year that she took home the NXT Women’s Championship.

The fact that Bayley once held the WWE Raw Women’s Championship, the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship, and the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship make her the first woman in WWE history to become the women’s Triple Crown Champion and the winner of the Grand Slam. With 380 days under her belt, Bayley holds the record for the longest single reign in the history of the SmackDown Women’s Championship. In addition, she was the first woman to successfully defend a WWE title in Saudi Arabia, which she did after she won the 2019 Money in the Bank ladder match.

She went to Independence High School in San Jose and was once the captain of the school’s basketball team. In addition, she competed in track and field events and studied martial arts during her time there. Since she was 11 years old, Martinez had been going to events hosted by Big Time Wrestling, a professional wrestling promotion located in Northern California. She began her career in professional wrestling in April 2008, when she was 18 years old, by enrolling in training sessions offered by Big Time Wrestling and being instructed by her head trainer Jason Styles.

One of the factors that led Martinez to pick Big Time Wrestling as her home promotion was the fact that they have a strong female roster. In September of 2008, she participated in her maiden match. When Martinez competed in the American independent wrestling circuit, she was known by her ring name, Davina Rose. From 2008 until 2012, Rose competed as a wrestler for Big Time Wrestling. In the years 2011 and 2012, Rose began competing in a variety of different promotions, including Pro Wrestling Destination, Shine Wrestling, and NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood, among others.

In October of 2010, Rose had her very first encounter with her future coach Serena when the two of them participated in a tag team match together. Rose made her first appearance with Shimmer Women Athletes back in October 2011. She became involved in Serena’s fight with the Canadian Ninjas (Portia Perez and Nicole Matthews) during the filming of Shimmer Volumes 41–44, and as a result, she was dragged into the conflict. During the tapings, Rose was unsuccessful in all four of her matches, including the one in which she made her debut against Mercedes Martinez. In 2012, Rose continued to wrestle for Shimmer.

In Volume 58, she received her first victory when she teamed up with Mia Yim to defeat Melanie Cruise and Mena Libra. On Volumes 51 and 52, Rose picked up her first two singles victories in Shimmer with wins over Cherry Bomb and Rhia O’Reilly. In 2013, Rose continued to wrestle for Shimmer. Martinez inked a contract with WWE in the month of December in 2012. In January 2013, Martinez made her debut for WWE’s developmental territory NXT during a live event. She wrestled under a mask as Luchadora for one match, and her team, Paige and Charlotte, prevailed in a six-woman tag team match against Summer Rae, Audrey Marie, and Emma.

She took the ring name Bayley and made her NXT broadcast debut on the show that aired on March 20. Unfortunately, she was defeated by Paige in the match. On June 12, Bayley debuted her new persona as a doe-eyed fangirl, however, she was eliminated by Alicia Fox in the first round of the NXT Women’s Championship tournament, which was held to determine the first-ever champion. On August 21, Bayley presented AJ Lee with a challenge for the Divas Championship, however, she was unsuccessful.

On September 4, Bayley and Charlotte won their match against Alicia Fox and Aksana, giving Bayley her first victory. The Beautiful, Fierce Females (Sasha Banks and Summer Rae), to Charlotte’s displeasure, attempted to convince Bayley to join them, but this led to Charlotte attacking Bayley during their match against the BFFs on November 13, and Charlotte ultimately decided to join the BFFs instead. After suffering a defeat at the hands of Banks in the opening round of competition on May 1, 2014, Bayley was eliminated from the competition for the vacant NXT Women’s Championship.

Bayley became the number one contender to Charlotte’s NXT Women’s Championship after she defeated Sasha Banks. However, she was unable to win the title at NXT TakeOver: Fatal 4-Way on September 11 and in a rematch that took place on October 2. After suffering a defeat at the hands of Banks in the middle of October, Bayley was attacked by her old best friend Becky Lynch, who had sided with Banks in the match. Bayley later teamed up with an adversary from the past, Charlotte, to engage in a feud with Banks and Lynch over the course of the subsequent several weeks.

Bayley suffered a knee injury as a result of the attack that Banks and Lynch carried out on her during the episode that aired on November 27. Her comeback occurred in the episode aired on January 21, 2015, during which she defended Charlotte against an assault launched by Banks and Lynch before grudgingly launching her own assault on Charlotte. On February 11, during NXT TakeOver: Rival, Bayley competed in a fatal four-way match for the NXT Women’s Championship, although she was ultimately unsuccessful in her attempt to win the championship.
