Akbar Gbajabiamila Bio

Akbar Oluwakemi-Idowu Gbajabiamila is a former professional American football player who played in the National Football League (NFL). He is now a pundit and co-host of the American Ninja Warrior television series. Gbajabiamila was born on May 6, 1979. Additionally, he is presently one of the co-hosts of The Talk on CBS. He was also an analyst for the NFL Network.

With his mother and father, all of whom were born and raised in Nigeria, as well as his six siblings, Gbajabiamila came of age in the Crenshaw neighborhood of Los Angeles. There is a former defensive end for the Green Bay Packers named Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila who is one of his brothers. While attending San Diego State University, Gbajabiamila participated in collegiate football before beginning his career as a professional football player.

During the year 2003, the Oakland Raiders decided to sign him as an undrafted free agent. The San Diego Chargers and the Miami Dolphins were the two other clubs that Gbaja-Biamila played for throughout his career. The Talk on CBS and American Ninja Warrior on NBC are both shows that Gbajabiamila is now co-hosting. In addition, she is also a co-host of American Ninja Warrior Junior, which is a spin-off program for Universal Kids.

During his time at Crenshaw High School, which is located in South Los Angeles, he was a standout basketball player for teams that were involved in the Willie West Jr. coaching period. In 1996 and 1997, he and his colleagues were victorious in terms of both the City Championship and the State Championship. During his senior year, Gbaja-Biamila relocated to play football because he wanted to.

He received honors from both the league and the conference. During his senior year, he racked up 11 sacks and 74 tackles, which earned him the title of defensive lineman of the year for the team. Many universities extended scholarship offers to Gbaja-Biamila during his senior year. These universities included the University of Oregon, the University of California, Berkeley, San Diego State, Fresno State, and Colorado State.

He decided to attend San Diego State University, which was also the institution that his elder brother attended. In the year 2002, Gbaja-Biamila was one of the Mountain West Conference’s all-stars. He became a member of the organization known as Athletes For Education, which was an outreach organization that included sending athletes into areas to work with young people on enhancing their life skills.

Following his graduation with a degree in communication and new media studies, he went on to complete a certified entrepreneurship program at the Wharton School of Business in the year 2005. Gbaja-Biamila was not selected in the final round of the 2003 NFL Draft. Subsequently, he became a free agency and signed with the Oakland Raiders.

Not only did he make the squad out of training camp, but he also participated in thirteen of the sixteen games that the club played during the regular season. His first and only sack of the season came against Daunte Culpepper, who was playing for the Minnesota Vikings at the time. He finished the season with seven tackles, four of which were considered single tackles. In 2004, Gbaja-Biamila played both defensive end and linebacker, and he sometimes filled in for other players like Travian Smith and Tyler Brayton. He also played both positions alternately.

With the Raiders, he participated in 14 games during the regular season, except two games in which he was not active. He finished the year with a career-high 14 tackles, 11 of which were solo, and he also added a sack to his total. Not only did he earn a season-high three tackles in games against the Denver Broncos and the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he also got a sack against Brad Johnson and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

During the game against the Carolina Panthers, Gbaja-Biamila also recovered a blocked punt, which ultimately resulted in a score for the Raiders. The Raiders dismissed Gbaja-Biamila on September 3, 2005, after he had been dealing with ailments that he sustained during the training camp in 2005. Two days later, he participated in a workout with the Green Bay Packers; however, he was not considered for a contract and hence did not play football during the season.

Following the announcement that Gbaja-Biamila had been signed to a future deal with the Miami Dolphins that was worth $7.4 million, the announcement was made on February 6, 2007. The move brought him back together with Cam Cameron, the new head coach of the Dolphins. Cameron had previously served as the offensive coordinator for the Chargers during the previous season when Gbaja-Biamila was a member of the Chargers.

On September 11, 2007, the Dolphins decided to waive him off their roster. It was during this season that he did not play football. In 2005, Gbaja-Biamila was chosen to be one of the first athletes to participate in the National Football League’s Broadcast Boot Camp. This camp was conducted in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, and its purpose was to provide twenty players with a brief and rigorous introduction to the skills necessary to begin a career in broadcasting or journalism after they had finished their playing careers.

It was during his time away from playing that he volunteered at KSWB, the NBC station in San Diego, and eventually became the co-host of Football Night in San Diego. He also took use of the time that he had between playing stints. Before taking his last opportunity in the National Football League with the Miami Dolphins, he hosted the program for a total of two and a half seasons, from 2006 to 2008.
