Rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer AJ Tracey was born Ché Wolton Grant on March 4, 1994, in the United Kingdom. He is better known by his stage name, AJ Tracey. He is originally from Ladbroke Grove, which is located in West London. Tracey saw a surge in popularity in 2016, which led to her being included on a list compiled by The Guardian titled “best new acts to catch at festivals in 2016.” The first mainstream EP released by Tracey, titled Secure the Bag, debuted at position number thirteen on the UK Albums Chart. In 2018, Tracey released the track “Butterflies” featuring the British rapper Not3s. This record proved to be his commercial breakthrough, as it peaked in the top 20 of the UK Singles Chart.
His first album, which was simply named and distributed by Warner Records in 2019, was met with widespread praise from music critics and reached a high position of number three on the UK Albums Chart. It contained his highest-charting song as a solo artist, “Ladbroke Grove,” which reached number three on the UK Singles Chart and was certified platinum by the BPI. “Ladbroke Grove” was included on this album. Grant spent his childhood in Ladbroke Grove, which is located in West London. He was born in Brixton. Grant’s father is of Afro-Trinidadian descent and was a rapper in the past. Grant’s mother is of Welsh descent and was a jungle DJ in the past. His mother gave him the name Che Guevara, after the rebel he was named after.
Since he was six years old, he’s been spitting rhymes. He received his primary education in the neighborhood at Middle Row Primary School and then continued his education at Holland Park School. In order to concentrate on his music career, he decided to withdraw from his criminology class at London Metropolitan University. He is a devoted fan of the soccer team Tottenham Hotspur. Tracey’s music, which she releases under the stage names Looney and Loonz, has been available online since June of 2011. One of the first SoundCloud accounts, known as Looney Tell ‘Em, has eleven recordings, all of which are available for free download. These include two tracks from Didn’t Make the Cut, which were initially planned for release on the abandoned hip-hop mixtape Fuck a Fairytale, and four songs from the canceled grime EP The Dungeon, which included non-exclusive beats from Spooky and Rude Kid.
Didn’t Make the Cut, his first mixtape, was published on September 13, 2012, and it has 21 UK rap and grime songs and freestyles. In his own words, the songs on the mixtape are “the tracks that didn’t make it onto my actual mixtape.” The artwork for the project still bears this title, which was the working title for the project when it was first conceived. His group, which goes by the name My Team Paid, made the announcement in August 2013 that they were going to release a collaborative mixtape with the same name. Although the song “Clouded Skies” was released as a single, the project was eventually canceled.
On August 30, 2014, Tracey’s second mixtape, titled No More Looney, was made available for download on DatPiff. There are a total of thirty-three songs on this album, and fellow My Team Paid members Big Zuu, Jay Amo, Wax, and Sketch are featured on several of them. Tracey released his fifth extended play, titled “Secure the Bag!,” in October of 2017. In the same year, he also started making recordings. After making his debut as a producer on “LA4AWEEK,” which was co-produced by Nyge and published in April 2017, he went on to create “Tell Man Twice,” which was released in August 2017 and featured fellow label member Big Zuu.
Modeling for the OVO apparel line in early 2018, AJ Tracey was involved in the project. The song “Butterflies” by Tracey, which featured Not3s, was released in May of 2018. AJ Tracey’s commercial career was launched thanks to the success of this song, which peaked at number 19 on the UK Singles Chart. The subsequent song, titled “Loer,” reached a peak position of number 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Tracey appeared as a guest artist on the album “The Time is Now” by Craig David, contributing to the song “Somebody like me” as a collaborator. Mer a rap is the title of the second studio album that Swedish rapper Z.E. released at the beginning of July 2019. The song “More Than Rap” had an appearance by Tracey.
On November 21, 2018, Tracey made the announcement that fans could pre-order his first album, which was scheduled to be published on February 8, 2019. The lead song “Doing It” was made available for streaming and digital download on the same day. In order to promote AJ Tracey, four more singles were made available to the public: “Butterflies” starring Not3s, “Psych Out!,” “Necklace” featuring Jay Critch, and “Ladbroke Grove.” The British Phonographic Industry awarded AJ Tracey with a silver certification when the album made its debut at position three on the UK Albums Chart. Tracey’s tune “Ladbroke Grove” eventually became her most successful hit, as it peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart.
Tracey made the announcement on 10 October 2019 that a deluxe version of AJ Tracey will soon be released, and that it would include five new tracks in addition to a few of surprises. The album was made available for purchase on October 25. On February 14, 2020, AJ Tracey made the announcement that he will be touring Australia, beginning in Adelaide on April 24. However, the trip ended up being postponed because to the COVID-19 epidemic.
Tracey originally came to the public’s notice after making performances on pirate radio stations and releasing his first extended play, titled The Front, in the middle of the year 2015. The critically lauded tunes “Spirit Bomb” and “Naila” were both included on Tracey’s second extended play titled Alex Moran, which was released in December of 2015. It was the first song of his to be broadcast on commercial radio and was prominently featured on BBC Radio 1Xtra DJ Sian Anderson’s program throughout the year 2015. “Swerve and Skid” was also the first song of his to be played on commercial radio.
During this time, Tracey also worked on a trap EP that she called Rain but ultimately decided not to release it. Tracey, who is a supporter of Tottenham Hotspur, was featured in promotional content produced by BT Sport in 2016 for the channel’s coverage of the Premier League. Additionally, he worked along with Dave on a remix of Ruff Sqwad’s Pied Piper, which resulted in the creation of a tune named “Thiago Silva” that was very well appreciated.
