Tulisa Contostavlos was born on July 13, 1988, in the neighborhood of Camden in North West London. She comes from a musical family; her mother, Ann Byrne, was a member of the band Jeep. Ann’s brothers Brian and Mick Byrne were in a pop-folk band named “Emmet Spiceland” with their sisters. Tulisa’s dad, Plato Contostavlos, played in a rock band called “Mungo Jerry” which was popular in the early 1970s.
It’s not unexpected that Tulisa has always been drawn to music. Almost everyone at family get-togethers would wind up singing or playing an instrument. Tulisa grew up with music and says that her mother’s musical tastes have had a lasting impact on her own. The illness of Tulisa’s mother profoundly affected Tulisa as a child. When Tulisa was five years old, Ann Byrne was sectioned under the ‘Mental Health Act’ of 1983 because she had been suffering from schizoaffective illness since her late teens. Tulisa’s upbringing suffered as a direct result, and she turned to drinking and drugs to cope.
Tulisa went to “Quintin Kynaston School” when her uncle Byron Contostavlos enrolled her there when she was 14 years old. She enrolled at “Haverstock Secondary School” afterward, but she ditched her GCSE tests out of some misguided notion of rebellion. Tulisa, whose real name is Tula Paulina Contostavlos, is a well-known British performer. In 2012, Tulisa released her first single, named “Young,” and immediately became a global sensation. Very popular, the song eventually reached number one on the UK Singles Chart.
She debuted with the CD “The Female Boss” a few months later. Another smashing hit, this album peaked at #35 on the UK Singles Chart. Tulisa, a pivotal part of the successful British hip-hop group “N-Dubz,” has won five MOBO awards and has been nominated for numerous others. She has also earned a gold album, two platinum albums, three silver singles, and a number of other certifications and accolades. She has appeared in films and TV shows like “Demons Never Die” and “The Xtra Factor” in her capacity as an actress and TV personality. Drugs and sex recordings were only two of Tulisa’s many issues.
Tulisa’s professional life began when she was still a teenager. She joined the group “N-Dubz” after her cousin Dappy, already a member of the group, extended an invitation to her. Tulisa began her musical career as a teenager with the group ‘N-Dubz,’ playing venues in and around Camden. The group’s first song video, titled “Everyday Of My Life,” was published in 2005 and quickly gained traction among music fans.
The third single by ‘N-Dubz,’ “Feva Las Vegas,” entered the top 60 on the ‘UK Singles Chart’ in 2007.
The band’s rise to prominence on the internet can be traced back to 2008 and the publication of the music video “Ouch.” After only a few days of its publication on YouTube, ‘Ouch’ had amassed over 4 million views, making ‘N-Dubz’ an internet phenomenon. The debut album from the group N-Dubz, titled “Uncle B,” was released on November 17, 2008, and featured the single “Strong Again” among other hits.
When ‘N-Dubz’ released its second studio album, ‘Against All Odds,’ in 2009, Tulisa was given the opportunity to sing a solo track. After only two months of sale, the record had already reached platinum status after reaching position six on the UK Album Chart. In 2010, ‘N-Dubz’ played 17 performances across the country. The next year, in response to their detractors’ criticisms, the band published a book titled “N-Dubz: Against All Odds.”
Tulisa revealed in 2012 that she was recording an eponymous album. Her first solo album, titled The Female Boss, was published on December 3, 2012, following the release of a few singles. The album did poorly on the charts and was panned by critics, unfortunately.
Tulisa reportedly began recording her second solo album in March 2013. Her single “Living Without You,” released on January 4, 2015, peaked at number 44 on the “UK Singles Chart.”
She dropped a new single on September 2, 2016, titled “Sweet Like Chocolate.” She also dropped the bombshell that she had just signed with an agency to launch her acting career. On June 21, 2010, ‘4Music’ aired the first episode of a six-part documentary series named ‘Being… N-Dubz,’ which included Tulisa. Tulisa had previously portrayed Laurissa, a singer with a cocaine addiction, on the TV series Dubplate Drama, therefore this was not her first acting role. The next year, in 2011, she had an appearance in the direct-to-DVD comedy Big Fat Gypsy Gangster. Her first film role was as Amber Johnson in the British slasher film “Demons Never Die,” released the same year.
Tulisa’s big break came when she was recruited to be a judge on the eighth season of the popular reality TV music competition, “The X Factor,” which premiered on May 30, 2011. Tulisa served as a coach to musical acts like “The Risk,” “Nu Vibe,” “2 Shoes,” and “Little Mix” on the show. As the show progressed, “Little Mix” became the most popular girl group ever. Tulisa was asked back to the show in 2012 for its ninth season as a judge and coach due to her previous success on the show. Singers Lucy Spraggan, Ella Henderson, and Jade Ellis were among the “Girls” she guided this time around.
