Nicolle Wallace Bio

Nicolle Wallace is an American novelist and television broadcaster. She was born Nicolle Devenish on February 4, 1972, in the United States. She is well-known for her work as the host of the news and politics program Deadline: White House on MSNBC and as a former co-host of the daytime chat show The View on ABC. Both of these roles have brought her a lot of attention. She is a frequent on-air contributor to the programs Today, The 11th Hour with Stephanie Ruhle, and Morning Joe in her capacity as a political commentator for MSNBC and NBC News.

In her previous life as a politician, Wallace was the Director of Communications for the White House under George W. Bush and for his re-election campaign in 2004. She held this position during Bush’s presidency. Additionally, during John McCain’s candidacy for the presidency in 2008, Wallace was a senior advisor for the McCain campaign. In addition, she is the author of the recent political novels Madam President, Eighteen Acres, and It’s Classified. Orinda, which is located in the San Francisco Bay Area, is where she spent her childhood.

She is the eldest of four siblings, the others being Zachary, Courtney, and Ashley. Both of her parents worked in the public school system; her mother was a teaching assistant in the third grade and her father as an antique dealer. Her grandpa, Thomas Devenish, worked as an antiquities dealer in Manhattan as part of the “Devenish and Company” business. He moved to the United States in 1947 with his family after being born in England to parents who were involved in the vaudeville industry. Additionally, Nicolle is of Greek ancestry.

Wallace obtained a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from the University of California, Berkeley in 1994 and a master’s degree in journalism from the Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism in 1996. Wallace graduated from Miramonte High School in 1990 and went on to earn both degrees. Additionally, during the 2008 presidential campaign of John McCain, Wallace was a senior advisor for the McCain campaign. As the primary spokeswoman and defense for the campaign, she routinely made appearances on various network and cable news programs.

Late in the month of October 2008, members of the campaign staff voiced their disagreement with Vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. One unidentified McCain aide stated that Palin had “gone rogue,” which meant that she had put her own future political interests ahead of those of the McCain/Palin ticket, directly contradicted the positions that her running mate held, and disobeyed directives from campaign management. Wallace gave a statement to both Politico and CNN in which he said, “If people want to throw me under the bus, my personal belief is that the most honorable thing to do is to lie there.” This was in response to allegations of division inside the McCain-Palin team.

In the movie titled “Game Change” from 2012, Sarah Paulson played the role of Wallace. Wallace stated that the documentary had a high level of credibility, adding that it had “captured the spirit and emotion of the campaign.” In another interview with George Stephanopoulos, the Chief Political Correspondent for ABC News, Wallace stated that the movie was “true enough to make me squirm.” Wallace has declared, eight years after the election, that she did not vote for a presidential candidate in 2008 because Sarah Palin made her think again about the decision.

She is the author of the novel Eighteen Acres, which was published in 2010.  It is a fictitious tale about three prominent women who are at the pinnacle of their careers: the first female President of the United States, her chief of staff, and a White House correspondent. The title of the novel is a reference to the 18 acres on which the White House complex lies. Wallace was quoted as saying, “It’s my best attempt at a story that I hope people will pick up and read and enjoy, and maybe feel like they’re getting a glimpse into what it’s really like in the White House in this entirely fictional story.” Wallace was referring to the book “My Best Attempt at a Story.”

“To say that Nicolle Wallace’s ‘Eighteen Acres’ is one of the best novels I’ve read about life in the White House may be faint praise—there haven’t been many good ones—but her book is both an enjoyable read and a serious look at what high-level political pressures do to people,” Patrick Anderson of The Washington Post wrote. “Her book is both an enjoyable read and a serious look at what high-level political pressures do to people.”

Craig Wilson of USA Today noted that “Nicolle Wallace actually knows what she’s talking about”, and Ashley Parker of The New York Times referred to the book as “an engaging, easy read.”A number of well-known faces from the world of television, including George Stephanopoulos, Rachel Maddow, John King, and Andrea Mitchell, have lauded the film Eighteen Acres. It’s Classified, the sequel to Wallace’s novel Eighteen Acres was released in September 2011 and tells the story of a fictional presidential campaign that is hampered by the presence of a mentally ill vice presidential candidate.

According to Wallace, the idea for the premise came from her time spent working as a senior adviser for the McCain/Palin campaign. The publication of her third novel, titled Madam President, took place in April 2015. ABC made the announcement that Wallace would be joining The View as a new co-host on September 3, 2014, alongside another newbie named Rosie Perez. On September 15, 2014, Wallace made her first appearance on the show as a co-host for the opening of the 18th season of the series. At the conclusion of the previous season, Wallace decided to leave the show.

After leaving her role as a co-host on The View, Wallace began working as a political commentator for NBC News and its sister cable network, MSNBC. Additionally, she was a regular contributor and guest host on NBC’s Today Show as well as MSNBC’s The 11th Hour with Brian Williams and Morning Joe. She was also a regular contributor on MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show. During the month of November 2016, Wallace contributed as an analyst to the live coverage of the election results that was broadcast on MSNBC and anchored by Brian Williams, Rachel Maddow, and Chris Matthews.

Since the 9th of May in 2017, Wallace has served as the anchor of the news and commentary program Deadline: White House, which airs in the afternoons on MSNBC. After reaching a total of 2 million views in July 2020 on Deadline: White House, the show was extended to two hours the following month in order to accommodate demand. During the invasion of Ukraine by Russia in 2022, the MSNBC primetime special “Ukraine: Answering the Call” on July 3, 2022, was produced by Wallace in the capacity of executive producer.
