Gary Maurice “Joyner” Lucas Jr. is a well-known American rapper, singer, and composer. He was born on August 17, 1988, in the United States. After the release of his song “Ross Capicchioni” in 2015, Lucas first gained significant notice and critical appreciation for his work in the music industry. It was his first mixtape to be published under a big label when he released 508-507-2209, his fourth mixtape, in June of 2017.
In November of 2017, Lucas released his track “I’m Not Racist,” which almost immediately gained widespread recognition and helped propel him farther into the mainstream. At the 61st Annual Grammy Awards, this music video was up for consideration for the Grammy Award for Best Music Video. Since 2016, Lucas has also been well-known for his remixes of major hip hop tracks, including “Gucci Gang” by Lil Pump, “Bank Account” by 21 Savage, “Panda” by Desiigner, and “DNA” by Kendrick Lamar, amongst a great many more. In October of 2018, he made the announcement that his first studio album, ADHD, will be released the following year in 2020.
Outside of the realm of music, Lucas and his manager Dhruv Joshi established the music technology platform known as Tully in the year 2015. When Joyner Lucas initially began rapping, he did so under the stage name G-Storm. However, by 2007, he had changed his stage name to Future Joyner and had begun collaborating with his cousin Cyrus the Great to establish a group that went by the moniker Film Skool Rejects. In the same year, they released Workprint, which was billed as “The Greatest Mixtape of All Time.” In 2011, Lucas released his very first mixtape under his own name, titled Listen to Me.
After the success of the rapper Future, Joyner Lucas decided to delete the “Future” from his name and continue his career under his birth name. In 2013, he released the first mixtape under this new alias, which had the title LFOs. On April 5, 2015, he released his newest mixtape, which was titled Along Came Joyner. His song “Ross Capicchioni” was included in this mixtape, and it received widespread critical praise. As a result of the popularity of the song, Lucas was invited to participate in the cipher at the 2015 BET Hip-Hop Awards. As a result of the quality of his original performance, he was initially scheduled to take part in the cipher that was only available online. However, he was then given the opportunity to rap as part of the live broadcast ciphers.
On September 21, 2016, Lucas inked a contract with Atlantic Records. After that, on June 16, 2017, Lucas collaborated with Atlantic Records on the release of a project named 508-507-2209. The mixtape included the tracks “I’m Sorry,” “Ultrasound,” “Just Like You,” and “Winter Blues,” and it peaked at number seven on the Heatseekers Albums list on the Billboard music chart. Since the year 2016, Lucas has also established a name for himself as a remixer of famous hip-hop tracks.
On November 28, 2017, Lucas uploaded the track “I’m Not Racist” to his YouTube account. The release date was November 28. The music video soon attracted widespread attention and received positive reviews. The contentious song addresses issues of race and society as well as racial relations from the points of view of a white man and a black man, respectively. At the 61st Annual Grammy Awards, the video was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Music Video, however, it was ultimately defeated by Childish Gambino’s performance of “This Is America.”
On February 25, 2018, Lucas and Chris Brown revealed that they would be working together on a project that would be dubbed Angels & Demons. The following day, the first track from the project, titled “Stranger Things,” was made available. On the first of April in 2018, Lucas released the track “Frozen,” which was a song that focused on various sorts of dangerous driving. On May 2, the second track to be taken from the Angels and Demons collaboration mixtape was made available to the public. “I Don’t Die”
On the 24th of December, 2018, it was shared with the public that Lucas had left his position at Atlantic Records. On July 31, 2018, Lucas made the announcement that he would be forced to cancel engagements in the Australian and European legs of his I’m Kind of a Big Deal tour owing to hoarseness and laryngitis. This was due to the fact that he had been suffering from both of these conditions. A month later, Lucas was featured on the track “Lucky You” from Eminem’s ninth studio album, Kamikaze. On the Billboard Hot 100, the song made its debut at position number 6, marking Lucas’s very first entry in the top 10 of that list.
Lucas made the announcement on the 12th of October, 2018, that he would be releasing his first studio album, which would be named ADHD. In addition to that, he disclosed that a single taken from the album will be made available on the following Wednesday. The album ADHD, which was published on March 27, 2020, had the song “I Love” as its first single, and it was distributed as a digital download. In the months leading up to its release, which occurred between October 2018 and March 2020, it was preceded by nine singles. In addition to cameos from Chris Tucker and Kevin Hart in the form of skits, the album included guest appearances from Logic, Young Thug, Chris Brown, Timbaland, Fabolous, and King OSF. Also featured on the album were cameos from Timbaland.
On August 17, 2020, Lucas revealed the day when his first EP, titled Evolution, would be made available. On October 23, 2020, it was made available to the public. The singles “Fall Slowly” featuring Ashanti and “Snitch” were out before it. The Game, Nyla, Ashanti, Rick Ross, and Elijah James all made cameo cameos in the extended play.
