Paul Wall Bio

Paul Wall, whose real name is Paul Michael Slayton and who was born on March 11, 1981, is a stage name used by Paul Wall, an American rapper and DJ. He has spent a significant portion of his career associated with Swishahouse Records. During this time, he has been responsible for the release of many albums via the label as well as numerous collaborations with other rappers that are signed to the company. It was with fellow Houstonian Chamillionaire that he got his start in the music industry, and it was with Chamillionaire that he recorded numerous albums, including the independently released Get Ya Mind Correct in 2002. He was signed to Atlantic Records in 2005, and his first album for a big label, The People’s Champ, was a commercial success. In 2007, he released Get Money, Stay True, which was followed by another album of the same name the following year.

For the song “Grillz,” which he collaborated on with the rapper Nelly, he has been considered for a nomination for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. Wall received his high school education at Jersey Village High School and then went on to spend three years studying mass communications at the University of Houston. Chamillionaire and Paul Wall went to Watts’ radio station 97.9 the Box after submitting a proposal to undertake promotional work for Michael “5000” Watts’ firm Swishahouse.

Paul and Chamillionaire were successful in their efforts to persuade Watts to allow them to rap on his radio program and include the verses on one of his mixtapes. The mixtape in question was called Choppin’ Em Up Part 2 and it was distributed somewhere in the middle of 1999. Because of the freestyle’s immense popularity in the area, Chamillionaire and Paul Wall quickly established themselves as mainstays on the mixtape scene in Houston. They also made guest appearances on numerous of Watts’ mixtapes and joined Swishahouse on a permanent basis.

Following Slim Thug’s departure from the record company, Chamillionaire and Paul Wall followed suit and formed their own group, which they dubbed The Color Changin’ Click. The Color Changin’ Click received an increasing number of commercial chances as a direct result of the publication of each new mixtape, the most significant of which was a deal to produce an entire album for Paid in Full Records.

The Color Changin’ Click and the head of Paid in Full’s label, DJ Madd Hatta from 97.9 The Box, negotiated a one-album deal, and the CCC’s debut album, Get Ya Mind Correct, would go on to sell more than 200,000 copies. The first time that Wall was exposed to music was on the Northwest side of Houston, where he worked as a part of a street team advertising southern record companies like Def Jam Records, Cash Money, and No Limit Records. It is commonly known that he is an experienced and professional mixtape and party, DJ. He is recognized for making mixtapes in the now-famous chopped & screwed style, which was first developed by DJ Screw. He is also an accomplished and proficient party DJ.

In 2004, Paul Wall made his way back to Swishahouse to record an appearance on Mike Jones’ “Still Tippin'” single, which was the musician’s debut on the commercial music scene. In 2005, Paul Wall published his first studio album, titled The People’s Champ, which quickly rose to the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart upon its first release. The first single was titled “Sittin’ Sidewayz” and featured Big Pokey. The song reached its highest position on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Chart at number 34 and on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 93. The second song, “They Don’t Know,” featured Bun B of UGK, and Mike Jones appeared in both the record and its accompanying music video. The most successful song of The People’s Champ was the third one, titled “Girl,” which reached its highest position on the Hot 100 at number 35.

Paul Wall appeared on the song “Grillz” by Nelly in November 2005, while it was still in the process of climbing the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Get Money, Stay True was Wall’s second studio album, and it was released in 2007, the same year that it debuted at the top place on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. “Break ‘Em Off,” which featured Lil Keke, and “I’m Throwed,” which featured and was produced by Jermaine Dupri, were both hits that were derived from the album. The song “Break ‘Em Off” reached its highest position on the Hot 100 at number 72 and on the R&B charts at number 58. The song “I’m Throwed” reached its highest position on the Hot 100 at number 87 and on the R&B charts at number 47.

Paul Wall and his buddies Travis Barker and Skinhead Rob formed the rap group Expensive Taste, in which Paul Wall participated as a member. The music video for Nickelback’s song “Rockstar” was released in 2007, and Paul Wall was one of the celebrities that featured in it. He had an appearance on the first album of reggae musician Collie Buddz, which was self-titled. Paul Wall, a recording artist for Strange Music, accompanied Tech N9ne and Ill Bill on their countrywide tour during the spring of 2008. Also appearing on the tour was Ill Bill. In the film I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell, which was released on September 25, 2009, Paul Wall gives a performance as the fictitious rapper Trillionaire. He, along with the film’s other screenwriters Nils Parker and Tucker Max, contributed to the writing of the film’s tunes.

In the year 2010, Polish rap musician Kaczor released an album titled Przyja, Duma, and Godno, on which Paul Wall was featured. The English title of the album is “Friendship, Pride, Dignity.” Paul Wall and Jump Shot Media, a firm located in Silicon Valley that specializes in social and mobile gaming, worked together in October 2011 to develop the world’s first mobile battle rap game, which they called Battle Rap Stars. Paul is the “main event” of the competition, and he is the rapper you need to defeat in order to come out on top. The mixtape named “No Sleep Til Houston” was made available for download by Paul Wall on March 7, 2012. In preparation for the 2013 NBA All-Star Game, which took place in Houston, Paul Wall, and Slim Thug worked together to create a mixtape.

Paul Wall issued his seventh studio album under the title CheckSeason on December 10, 2013. The album had 11 tracks and featured guest appearances from artists like as Stunna Bam, Killa Kyleon, Slim Thug, Lil Keke, Kid Ink, and Young Dolph. CheckSeason was published. Independently, under his Paul Wall Music label, the album was distributed to the public.

After releasing Check Season on December 2, 2014, Paul Wall followed it up with releasing his eighth studio album, named The Po-Up Poet, which was produced by June “The Jenius” James. This album was released on December 2, 2014. “The almost circus-like production reestablishes the idea that as long as Wall’s been in the game, he’s been a beloved Texas rap legend,” said an article that appeared in the November 2014 issue of Vibe magazine.

Paul Wall released his ninth studio album, titled SlabGod, on September 25, 2015, immediately after the release of his previous album, The Po-Up Poet. This album included the track “Swangin’ In The Rain.” This new version of “Swingin’ In The Rain” by Wall was released on March 11, 2016, and it has contributions from Slim Thug, Lil’ Keke, J-Dawg, Z-Ro, and Chamillionaire. After releasing SlabGod on October 21, 2016, he released his ninth album, which was named Houston Oiler and was released in October of that same year. Diamond Boyz, a mixtape that he and the rapper C Stone collaborated on, was released in February 2017. On January 19, 2018, he presented the world with his tenth studio album, titled Bounce Back Over Setbacks. After thereafter, in March 2020, he released his eleventh studio album titled Mind Over Matter. Slab Talk was the name of a mixtape that Wall and Lil Keke collaborated on and released on June 5, 2020.
