Michael Wayne Atha, better known by his stage name Yelawolf, is an American rapper from Gadsden, Alabama. He was born on December 30, 1979. Yelawolf released his first independent album, Creek Water, in 2005, when he was in his early years. He released one extended play and four mixtapes between 2005 and 2010. Trunk Muzik, an extended play (EP), drew a lot of attention, which led to the rapper signing a record deal with Interscope Records, who re-released the mixtape as Trunk Muzik 0-60 later that year.
Yelawolf signed a recording deal with Eminem’s Shady Records in January 2011, and his major-label debut album, Radioactive, was released on November 21, 2011. On the Billboard 200, the album debuted at number 27. On March 14, 2013, Yelawolf released Trunk Muzik Returns, a follow-up to his breakout mixtape Trunk Muzik. Yelawolf gained recognition as a contract artist (mural painting) from Rainbow City, Alabama, after appearing on the UPN Network reality series The Road to Stardom with Missy Elliott in 2005. Following his elimination from the show, he released his independent debut album Creek Water in 2005, followed by his debut mixtape Pissn’ in a Barrel of Beez the following year. Yelawolf signed to Columbia Records two years later and released the single “Kickin'” from his unreleased first studio album, Fearin’ and Loathin’ in Smalltown, United States of America.
After Yelawolf was dropped from the label later that year, the album was never released. Following his departure from Columbia, Yelawolf released two mixtapes, titled Ball of Flames: The Ballad of Slick and Ball of Flames: The Ballad of Slick. Rick E. Bobby and Stereo: A Hip Hop Tribute to Classic Rock are two albums that have largely gone unnoticed. He signed with Ghet-O-Vision Entertainment in 2009 and released his debut extended play Arena Rap the following year.
