Wale Bio

wale was born on September 21, 1984. His parents, originally from Nigeria, arrived in the United States by way of Austria in 1979. When he was 10 years old, his family relocated to Montgomery County. His graduation from “Quince Orchard High School” in Gaithersburg, Maryland, marked the end of his formal education. After graduating from high school, he used football scholarships to attend both Robert Morris University and Virginia State University. Wale was a football fan who detested school. After being moved to “Bowie State University,” he eventually dropped out due to poor grades.

Wale’s passion for music began to develop during his time at university. He’s related to Gbenga Akinnagbe, who starred in the HBO crime drama “The Wire.” Wale’s first single, “Rhyme of the Century,” was played on alternative radio stations. His accomplishments encouraged him to pursue music as a career. Wale is a popular American rapper of Nigerian heritage who got his start in the industry at a Washington, DC radio station. After receiving a football scholarship to attend college, he switched his focus to music. He quickly made up his mind to forego college and go straight after his goal.

His sound combines elements of classic go-go from the ’60s with modern hip-hop and rap. His debut single, “Dig Dug,” was a success, and he soon after signed with a small independent label in the area known as “Studio 43.” The success of his single earned him a profile in “The Source.” That was the beginning of his successful career. His debut mixtape, “Paint a Picture,” featured the popular single “Dig Dug.”

In 2006, at the “WKY’s Go-Go Awards,” he was named “DC Metro Breakout Artist of the Year,” which brought him widespread attention. After making a name for himself in the music business, he secured a record deal with Allido Records and Interscope Records and dropped Attention Deficit, which peaked at #21 on the Billboard 200. Chloe Jourdan, his long-term girlfriend, had a daughter in 2016. Wale is ready to take their love to the next level by getting married.

Wale’s debut single, “Dig Dug,” was released in 2006 after he signed a contract with independent record company Studio 43. That year, more people in Washington, DC requested that single than any other song by a local band or singer. The journal The Source also ran an article about him. He included “Dig Dug” on his debut mixtape “Paint a Picture.” Hit singles including “Breakdown” and “Uptown Roamers” were on his subsequent mixtape, “Hate is the New Love.”

As a result of his early popularity, he was named “DC Metro Breakout Artist of the Year” at the 2006 WKY’s Go-Go Awards. The March 2007 issue of The Fader, one of the most influential magazines covering the intersection of music, culture, and fashion, published an interview with him. His third mixtape, titled “100 Miles & Running,” was made available for free download on his “Myspace” profile in the month of July 2007. The same year, he also dropped the track “Good Ladies,” which was produced by Gerard Thomas and Demario Bridges.

In 2008, he secured a contract with “Allido Records” and “Interscope Records” to release his fourth mixtape, “The Mixtape About Nothing,” furthering his career as a musician. His subsequent mixtape, titled “Back to the Feature,” included guest appearances from several prominent modern rappers, including Talib Kweli, Beanie Sigel, and Joell Ortiz. Wale’s first full-length album, titled “Attention Deficit,” was released in the fall of 2009. Throughout its first week of release, the album sold over 28,000 copies, placing it at No. 21 on the ‘Billboard 200’ chart. Lady Gaga, Gucci Mane, and Jazmine Sullivan were among the guests.

More About Nothing, his sixth mixtape, featuring DJ Omega and was released in August 2010. More than 100,000 copies were downloaded in the first 90 minutes after its release, making it a great success online. In the late fall of 2011, his second studio album, titled “Ambition,” was released via Maybach and Warner Music. The album’s sales were bolstered by a promotional mixtape called “The Eleven One Eleven Theory,” which gained widespread attention.

His third album, “The Gifted,” was released in 2013, and his fourth album, “The Album About Nothing,” was released in 2015; both albums benefited from his approach of releasing singles and mixtapes to promote their albums. He also went on a number of promotional trips across the United States. Recently, he has shared the stage alongside a wide variety of celebrities, including Rick Ross, Tiara Thomas, and Trinidad James. In April of 2017, he released his fifth studio album, Shine, on Warner Brothers Records.

He handled every aspect of the production and release of “Dig Dug,” and it quickly became the most-requested song ever played on the radio in the District of Columbia. Olubowale Victor Akintimehin was born in 1984 to parents who had moved to the United States from Nigeria five years prior. Wale was born in the suburbs of Washington, DC, and spent the first ten years of his life there before moving to Maryland with his family.

The lure of the music industry, however, was too strong, and he soon dropped out of school to focus on his recording career. A local DJ who saw potential in him played his first song, “Rhyme of the Century,” on the air in 2003–2004. The next year, Source magazine featured him in their Unsigned Hype piece.

Wale enjoyed a streak of hits in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas in 2006 after signing with the local start-up imprint Studio 43. The hit “Dig Dug,” which paid respect to Ronald “Dig Dug” Dixon of the go-go band the Northeast Groovers, was sampled in many of these tracks since it was based on go-go, a rawer, percussion-driven offshoot of disco that originated in D.C. By strategic use of the Internet and MySpace, über-producer, and DJ Mark Ronson learned about the go-go MC in 2007. In the summer of 2013, Wale signed a production agreement with Mark Ronson’s label, Allido, and dropped the mixtape 100 Miles and Running. He received excellent reviews from publications like XXL and The New York Times despite not being signed to a major label.
