Bio

When Sam Barry returned from World War II in 1946, he and Dedeaux served as co-coaches, with Dedeaux running the team each year until Barry finished his basketball season. USC won the College World Series in 1948 as a result of the arrangement. Rod Dedeaux’s reign Dedeaux took over the USC programme in 1943 after serving as co-head coach with his former college coach, Sam Barry, in 1942.

When Sam Barry joined the Navy, he recommended Dedeaux to coach the team. Dedeaux coached the Trojans alone for the next three years before reuniting with Barry as co-head coach. Dedeaux became the sole coach of USC baseball after Barry died in September 1950. Dedeaux became the sole coach after taking over in 1951, and he went on to build on the early success to establish the strongest programme in collegiate baseball. In Dedeaux’s first 11 years as coach, the Trojans won 11 consecutive CIBA championships. The Trojans won nine outright championships and tied for first place in 1953 and 1957. Following the 1957 season, Dedeaux’s team finished 36–8 overall, earning him the first of his ten national championships as a sole coach. 1958 Native plays college baseball for the University of Southern California.

The USC Trojans are one of the most successful programmes in college baseball history. The Trojans have won more national championships in baseball than any other programme in all divisions of college baseball. USC is far and away from the leader in that category, with 12 national championships; no other Division I school has more than six. USC also ranked fifth in all-time College World Series (CWS) appearances with 21, trailing only Texas (37), Miami (FL) (25), Florida State (23), and Arizona State (21), as of June 14, 2021. (22). USC is also fourth in NCAA Tournament wins with 173, trailing only Texas (245), Florida State (199), and Miami (194), and tenth in total NCAA Tournament appearances with 37. As of the end of the 2021 season, the Trojans had an all-time record of 2,944–1,745–29 (.627), ranking sixth in all-time wins and 22nd in all-time win percentage, and had won or tied for 38 conference championships.
