Tina received the “Woman of Impact” award for 2019 from the Off the Field Players Wives Association as well as the “Red Letter Award” from the WICT Network Southeast Chapter. Both of these awards were presented to Tina in 2019. Tina and her hubby have made their home in the metropolitan area of Atlanta, Georgia.
In 2006, the University of Pennsylvania honored me by awarding me the degree of Master of Science in Organizational Dynamics. Tina Simmons was born and raised in Philadelphia, which was also the city in which she began her professional career. In 1989, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Marketing from Villanova University. When she started having second thoughts about continuing her education, she was working as the manager of the call center for PECO. Before I made the decision to switch my major, I had already completed one or two classes in the new field. Because the program gave me the flexibility to choose my own pace for classwork, I was able to balance the duties I had as an employee of a software consulting firm that was still in its early stages with the academic work I needed to do. After working for the company for two years, Comcast, which was in the process of acquiring another telecom company, hired me to manage its call center operations. Due to the amount of time, I spent working and traveling, I was no longer able to continue hosting my show. When I wanted to take a break from the program for a bit, the staff in Organizational Dynamics was really understanding and helpful, and they helped me keep my credits and get back into the program.
In addition to group dynamics, change management, and leadership, I knew that when I eventually went back to school, one of the subjects I wanted to study was gender and leadership. As soon as Comcast noticed that I had gotten back on track with my program, they promoted me to the position of senior director. In spite of the fact that my new job came with a significant amount of responsibility, I discovered that the concepts we were debating in school helped me maintain my level of enthusiasm. The number of open and honest conversations that we had also left an impression on me. Because of the wide range of backgrounds represented by the attendees, we were able to talk freely about difficult issues relating to our employees. Those were extremely weighty consequences to face.
