Others felt he was neither. In subsequent years, Tenzing Norgay was appointed to the position of director of field training at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling. Dawa Phuti, his first wife, passed away at a young age in 1944. From his first marriage, he was blessed with two daughters.
