Steve Sax Bio

Stephen Louis Sax is an American former professional baseball player and current coach. He was born on January 29, 1960, in the United States. From 1981 through 1994, he was a second baseman in Major League Baseball. He is best known for his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers, with whom he won two world titles (1981 and 1988).

He played in the MLB from 1981 until 1994. Sax was selected as the National League Rookie of the Year in 1982 and was awarded the Silver Slugger in 1986. He went on to become a player who was selected for the All-Star Game five times. Additionally, he was a member of the New York Yankees, the Chicago White Sox, and the Oakland Athletics baseball teams. Sax is a host on MLB Network Radio, which is broadcast on SiriusXM at the moment.

Between the years 1975 and 1978, Sax was a standout student at James Marshall High School in West Sacramento, California, which is now known as River City High School. Sax was chosen by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the ninth round of the 1978 Major League Baseball Draft. Sax was called up late in the season in 1981 and ended up playing in 31 games for the team. Sax made his debut in the major leagues as a regular in 1982 and was awarded the Rookie of the Year trophy by the National League.

During the course of his career, Sax was selected for the All-Star team five times and had three seasons in which his batting average was higher than.300. He finished his career with a total of 444 stolen bases, having successfully stolen more than 40 bases in six separate seasons. Overall, he had a very successful career on the basepaths. Arguably, his best year was 1986, when he won the Silver Slugger Award, finishing in second place in the National League with a batting average of.332, 210 base hits, and 43 doubles, and also won the award. Additionally, he established a new mark for the Yankees franchise with 171 hits in a single campaign in 1989.

Sax was a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers when they won the World Series in 1981 and 1988, both times. During the course of his career, Sax had a position of prominence within the Players Association. Steve Sax was never considered to be one of the best fielding second basemen in the league; yet, in 1983, for some inexplicable reason, he became unable to make routine throws to first base, and as a result, he committed 30 mistakes throughout that season.

This condition is referred to as “Steve Sax Syndrome” in baseball parlance. It is the fielder’s variant of “Steve Blass disease,” which was named after the Pirates pitcher who had a similar breakdown of basic mechanics (also known as “The Yips”). Fans sitting behind the first base dugout began pretending to shield themselves by donning batting helmets as his accuracy began to decrease.

(A teammate named Pedro Guerrero, who was an outfielder at the time but was forced to play third base in 1983, is rumored to have said that anytime he was out in the field, the first thing that went through his mind was, “I hope they don’t hit it to me,” and the second thing that went through his mind was, “I hope they don’t hit it to Sax.”) Sax, on the other hand, appeared to be entirely “cured” by the year 1989, when he led the American League in both fielding percentage and double plays.

Allsportsconnection.com was the name of the new social networking website that Sax helped to launch. Sax has appeared in cameos on television shows, such as “Homer at the Bat” on The Simpsons, and episodes of Square Pegs, Who’s the Boss, Hollywood Squares, and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, among others. Additionally, he has appeared on the show Hannity, which airs on Fox News. In the film Ground Control, which was released in 1998, Sax portrayed a supporting part.

In 1996, he made a brief bid on behalf of the Republican Party to represent the 5th District in the California State Assembly. once some time, Sax withdrew from the competition once the news of his divorce became public. In addition to holding the rank of black belt, he was also a part-owner of a dojo located in Roseville, California.

In the office of RBC Dain Rauscher, LLC located in Roseville, California, he was a financial consultant working for the company. He maintained between 25 to 30 clients at any given time, several of them were athletes. At RBC Dain Rauscher, he was a partner in the Sax/Hinman Sports Professional Group, which offered professional wealth management for athletes competing at every level of all professional sports.

In December 2012, the Arizona Diamondbacks decided to promote him to the position of first base coach. On October 8, 2013, the Diamondbacks parted ways with Sax. Since the year 2015, Sax has been working with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization once again, this time as an alumnus member of the Community Relations team. Sax is the host of MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM at the moment.

Dave Sax, a former Major League Baseball player who also played for the Dodgers, is Steve’s brother. Steve is a member of the Dodgers. Both his daughter Lauren Ashley (Sax) Boyd and his son John Jeremy Sax have him as a parent. In 2015, his nephew David Sax Jr., who is also named David Sax and is the son of Dave Sax, appeared on an episode of Intervention. On June 8, 2022, near San Diego, California, a training mishap involving a V-22 Osprey claimed the lives of five United States Marines, including his son John, who was a Captain in the United States Marine Corps.
