Stephen A. Smith is a well-known American sports writer who also works as a television and radio broadcaster. He was a prominent player of the college basketball squad and trained under the Basketball Hall of Fame coach Clarence Gaines. He was also developing his journalistic side by contributing to the campus newspaper known as The News Argust, in addition to being an active participant on the pitch.
In one of the pieces, he discussed how their team’s coach, Gaines, should no longer be in charge of the squad because of the chronic health problems he is experiencing. Because of this, he has always been recognized for the fearless journalistic approach he employs. Soon after receiving his diploma from the college, Stephen started working as a clerk in the sports section of the Winston-Salem Journal. He also began his writing career at about the same time.
After working there for a period of time, he started working for the New York Daily News. He also worked for the Greensboro News and Record for a short period of time. One of the major early achievements of his career occurred in 1994 when he started working for The Philadelphia Inquirer. After then, he became the official reporter for the Philadelphia 76ers after having covered NBA games before.
At some point in time, he also started contributing to the general sports section. In the middle of the 2000s, he transitioned from print to television and radio, starting their respective careers in the year 2005. In the same year, he started presenting his own television program on ESPN named ‘Quite Honestly with Stephen A. Smith,’ which was an hour-long show that made its debut on August 1, 2005.
