Sergio Romero Bio

Sergio Germán Romero is an Argentine professional footballer who now plays keeper for Boca Juniors. His full name in Spanish is Sergio Germán Romero, and he was born on February 22, 1987. Additionally, he has played soccer for Argentina’s national team. Romero began his professional career in the Argentine Primera División in 2007 with Racing Club. At the conclusion of that season, he made the move to the Dutch club AZ Alkmaar.

Romero’s debut came in Argentina. In 2009, he won the Eredivisie, and then in 2011, he signed with Sampdoria to play for them in Italy. In 2013, he took a loan position with Monaco for the next season. He signed with Manchester United in July 2015 but decided to part ways with the club after serving there for six seasons. Romero has played for the Argentina national team more than 90 times since making his debut in 2009.

This makes him the keeper with the most caps in the history of Argentina’s national team. He has competed for Argentina in two World Cups and three Copa America tournaments, and he has finished as the runner-up in each of those competitions. The 2014 FIFA World Cup, the 2015 and 2016 Copa America tournaments, and the 2015 Copa America tournament were all won by Brazil. In addition, he was a member of the team that triumphed at the Olympics in 2008 and took home the gold. Romero started his career while he was young with Almirante Brown and CAI before moving on to Racing Club. Romero was born in Bernardo de Irigoyen.

Romero was promoted from the Racing Club junior program to the senior squad in 2006, the same year he made his first appearance in the Argentine Primera División. During the entirety of the 2005 season, Romero was used on the bench as a substitute. Throughout the entirety of the 2006 season, he remained on the bench for substitutes. Despite this, he became a member of the club and signed his first professional contract.

Romero found himself in a position where he had to compete with José Luis Martinez Gullotta for the starting keeper position in the 2007 season. On Matchday 1 of the Torneo Apertura, Romero made his debut for Racing Club in a 1–1 tie against Nueva Chicago. However, Romero was forced to spend two months on the sidelines after losing his starting position as the team’s first-choice keeper to Gustavo Campagnuolo in the game that immediately followed.

Romero had his first appearance in two months on April 14, 2007, against Colón, in a match that ended in a 1–1 tie. This was followed by another appearance on April 22, 2007, in a match that ended in a 3–3 draw against Belgrano. Both of these matches were draws. Romero had signed for AZ when he transferred in the summer. Romero made his final appearance for the club on June 17, 2007, in a game against Godoy Cruz that they won 4–2.

This was after Campagnuolo had sustained an injury. On March 24, 2007, it was revealed that Romero had signed a contract with AZ Alkmaar. Louis van Gaal was the manager of the team at the time he joined the club on July 1, 2007. While there, it was anticipated that Romero would compete with Boy Waterman for the starting position of keeper. Romero made his debut in the Eredivisie on September 30, 2007, against Heracles Almelo, following an injury to Waterman.

During the game, he let up a penalty kick, and AZ ended up losing by a score of 2-1. In his second game of the season, which took place on February 23, 2008, against Twente, he recorded his first clean sheet for the team, which resulted in a scoreless tie. From that point forward, Romero was a permanent member of the squad, and Arizona ended up finishing 11th. After Waterman moved to Den Haag, AZ turned to Romero as their starting keeper in the 2008–2009 season, and Romero has held that position ever since.

From November 2008 to February 2009, Romero had a perfect record of 950 minutes of play for Arizona. Romero renewed his membership with the club and signed a new contract, which will keep him playing for them until the 2012 season. On March 5, 2009, in the quarterfinals of the KNVB Cup, he committed an error that led to Breda’s Nourdin Boukhari scoring, and as a result, AZ was eliminated with a score of 2–1. Following the loss, he became so frustrated that he punched the door and walls of the locker room that his team used, breaking the bones in his hand in the process.

As a result of this injury, he was unable to play for the team when it mattered most during the season. During the 2008–09 season, AZ won the Eredivisie despite not participating in the competition. He made his comeback on April 26, 2009, against Ajax, when Joey Didulica was hurt in a collision with Luis Suarez. He played for 16 minutes in the match, which ended in a 1–1 tie. At the completion of the 2008–2009 season, Romero has competed in a total of 31 games across all competitions.

Van Gaal moved on to become the head coach of Bayern Munich during the 2009–10 campaign. Romero was rumored to be leaving AZ this summer, with Juventus and Bayern Munich reportedly interested in signing him. However, Romero remained with the club for the entire summer. Romero got off to a strong start in the season by contributing to AZ’s victory in the Johan Cruyff Shield against Heerenveen, which resulted in AZ claiming the title with a score of 5-1.

Romero, who is currently the team’s starting keeper, made his debut in the UEFA Champions League on the opening matchday of the Group Stage, which was a loss against Olympiacos by a score of 1-0. On the other hand, he ended up hurting his knee a week later, which forced him to miss another week of work. One week later, on October 3, 2009, he made his comeback from injury and played for the first team in a match that Breda won 1-0.

Romero sustained an additional injury later in the season, which resulted in him being taken off the field during the first half of the 1–0 victory over Sparta Rotterdam on March 21, 2010. It was revealed that Romero will not be able to play for the remainder of the season due to this injury, which casts question on his ability to participate in the World Cup in 2010. Romero finished the 2009–10 season having made a total of 36 appearances across all competitions, despite the ailments that he had suffered.
