“Scott” Joseph Shaw is a cartoonist, animator, and historian of comics who was born in the United States on September 4, 1951. He is also known as Scott Shaw! and Scott Shaw? in Rick and Steve. A few examples of Shaw’s work in the comic book industry are The Flintstones by Hanna-Barbera (published by Marvel Comics and Harvey Comics), Captain Carrot and His Amazing Zoo Crew (published by DC Comics), and Simpsons Comics (published by Bongo Comics).

Following the first appearance of Captain Carrot and His Amazing Zoo Crew! in a special insert in The New Teen Titans #16 (February 1982), which was followed by a series that was published from 1982 to 1983, he and Roy Thomas collaborated on the creation of this comic book series. In the early stages of the Sonic the Hedgehog series’ existence, Shaw contributed to Archie Comics by writing and drawing for the series.
In the most recent instance, he has been embroiled in the ongoing legal dispute between Ken Penders and the publishers about the ownership of characters and copyright. The Completely Mental Misadventures of Ed Grimley, which starred Martin Short, and Camp Candy, which starred John Candy, are two examples of Shaw’s work in the field of television animation. Shaw produced and directed both of these shows for Hanna-Barbera Animation.
Additionally, he was honored with four Emmy Awards for his work as a story director and storyboard artist for Jim Henson’s Muppet Babies (Marvel Productions) television show to be shown on CBS. The direct-to-DVD adaptation of Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas and Mulan 2 were both projects that Shaw worked on for Disney. It was during Shaw’s tenure as Senior Art Director at Ogilvy & Mather in Los Angeles that he was responsible for the co-writing, co-directing, storyboarding, and design of hundreds of animated television advertisements for Post Fruity and Cocoa Pebbles cereal. Shaw held this position for over ten years.
In addition, he has created and illustrated a significant number of the cereal’s packaging, as well as written and drawn several print advertisements for the product. Shaw is also responsible for designing action figure lines for McFarlane Toys, which include characters from Hanna-Barbera and The Simpsons. In the year 1970, he was one of the individuals who, together with Shel Dorf, Richard Alf, Ken Krueger, Mike Towry, Barry Alfonso, Bob Sourk, and Greg Bear, worked together to establish Comic-Con International San Diego.
Shaw joined CAPS, also known as the Comic Art Professional Society, in June of 1977 and has held the position of president of the group in the past. Shaw wrote a column on the website of Comic Book Resources called “Oddball Comics” for ten years. In this blog, he chose comic and magazine issues that were known for their peculiarity and offered data and opinions on those issues.
It was the foundation for a digital slide display that he has presented at comics conventions when he was in attendance. Greg Preston, a photographer, took photographs of Shaw at his studio for the book The Artist Within: Portraits of Cartoonists, Comic Book Artists, Animators, and Others, which was released by Dark Horse Books in 2007. Shaw was the first artist to be included in the book. Preston attributes the concept for the project to Shaw being the one who suggested it.
Scott Shaw, who served as the chief athletic trainer for the Spartans from 2008 to 2020, is now facing six misdemeanor charges of violating the civil rights of four female athletes under the guise of the law by doing physical therapy treatments on their breasts or buttocks between the years 2017 and 2020. The maximum sentence for each offense is one year in jail.
