Samantha Harris is an American television presenter, model, and entertainment reporter and actor. She is best known for her role as the co-host of seasons two through nine of Dancing with the Stars with Tom Bergeron. Harris was born on November 27, 1973, as Samantha Harris Shapiro.
She worked as a reporter for Entertainment Tonight during the years of 2010 and 2012. She made her way back to the show in September 2015, this time serving as a co-anchor for the weekend version. Her parents initiated the Renaissance celebration that is now known as King Richard’s Faire in the year 1982. It is held in Carver, Massachusetts, on a seasonal basis, and it is still running as of the year 2017.
Her upbringing was traditionally Jewish. She received her degree in psychology from Northwestern University. Harris started working for The Insider on December 16, 2008, first as a replacement host and then as a reporter. She has previously held positions as a host of THS Investigates and a reporter for E! Entertainment Television’s E! News.
She not only wrote, produced, and reported daily for E! News, but she also co-hosted the live award show coverage that the network aired for the Academy Awards, the Golden Globes, and the Emmys. Additionally, she has been a guest on Good Morning America in the role of a special reporter.
Before Harris began working for E!, she was a co-host for the weekend edition of the informational and entertainment program Extra, where she conducted interviews with a large number of famous people and worked as an anchor for the Las Vegas bureau of the show. Her work as a co-host on Dancing with the Stars with Tom Bergeron is perhaps her most well-known hosting gig. In 2006, she succeeded Lisa Canning as head of the department.
Her other hosting gigs include Fox’s The Next Joe Millionaire and AMC Access, which was a spinoff of Access Hollywood created for AMC but did not last very long. In addition to that, she appeared on one episode of The View as a guest co-host. Between May 11 and May 15, 2009, she was the host of a week’s worth of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire episodes.
Harris made the announcement that she will be leaving Dancing with the Stars on January 28, 2010, and would instead concentrate on other ventures, such as her reporter responsibilities at The Insider and Entertainment Tonight.
In the spring 2010 season, former champion of Season 7 Brooke Burke took over for Harris as the show’s co-host. Tug of Words on Game game Network was given a new presenter, Harris, for its second season, which debuted on November 14, 2022. Previously, the game had been hosted by Ahmad Rashad.
The Mighty Ducks, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Surviving Gilligan’s Island (in which she played the actress Dawn Wells), Reefer Madness, Beautiful, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation are just some of the movies and television shows in which she has appeared.
In 2009, she made her debut on Broadway as Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago. At the Ambassador Theatre, she gave a series of performances in the long-running musical beginning on July 7 and ending on August 16; the run lasted for a total of six weeks. After her successful stint on Broadway, Harris took on the role of Roxie for the August 18–23 engagement of the national tour at the Peace Center in Greenville, South Carolina.
In addition to appearing on the covers of Muscle & Fitness: HERS, FHM, SELF, and SHAPE magazines, and in a variety of advertisements and commercials, Harris has been a cover girl model three times. She was featured in the issue of FHM that was published in December of 2006.
Samantha was a co-host on Dancing with the Stars for a total of eight seasons, during which time she was nominated for two Emmys. In addition, she worked for a considerable amount of time as a reporter and weekend anchor on Entertainment Tonight. For her work there, she was nominated for two more Emmys and ultimately won one of them. The Next Joe Millionaire on FOX was Samantha’s very first hosting gig on a program that aired during primetime.
Following her time on Dancing with the Stars, she presented NBC’s Stars Earn Stripes. She has also hosted dozens of other national network and syndicated programs, such as Gordon Ramsay’s Culinary Genius (FOX stations), The Insider, E! News, and Extra. Additionally, she has appeared as a guest host on a variety of shows, including Access Hollywood Live, The View.
Daily Blast Live, Hollywood Today Live, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, and Good Morning America (guest correspondent), amongst others. She also made her Broadway debut in 2009, appearing as Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago. She co-hosted the official live red carpet event for both the 80th Academy Awards and the Critics’ Choice Awards.
Samantha is a qualified personal trainer and a known specialist in the field of fitness. She has been featured on the cover of a number of publications that are devoted to health and fitness, such as Shape, First for Women, Fit Parent, Muscle & Fitness HERS (a record four times), Pilates Style, Wellness, and Women’s Running.
She has also been featured in the pages of several other publications, such as People, USA Today magazine, SELF, Closer Weekly, InTouch, Star, and US Weekly, amongst others. As a result of Samantha’s unwavering commitment to fostering progress in breast cancer research, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Los Angeles 2017 awarded her Survivor of the Year, and she led the event’s 2018 Parade of Promise.
In addition to this, she is a member of the Entertainment Council for Feeding America and acts as an ambassador for both the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the American Cancer Society. She was featured in a national print and television campaign when it was revealed in November 2007 that Harris would be the spokesman for Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula range.
This happened at the same time when Harris was awarded the Crown Award for “Best Hairstyle on Television” by the voters at Super-Hair.Net for two years in a row, 2007 and 2008. In 2005, Harris tied the knot with Michael Hess. In 2007, Harris gave birth to the couple’s first daughter, however she was unable to attend the opening of Dancing with the Stars season five because she was pregnant.
The next time we saw her was on October 15, 2007. While Harris was out of commission for the first three weeks of the tournament, the runner-up from the previous season, Drew Lachey, served as a substitute. After another three years had passed, Harris gave birth to the couple’s second child, also a girl.
Harris made the announcement in April 2014 that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and would be undergoing a double mastectomy to treat the disease. In October of 2014, she made the announcement that she was no longer battling cancer.
