Bio

Benjamin “Ben” Lasky, best known by his stage name Quadeca, was born in the United States on October 2, 2000. He is a rapper, singer-songwriter, producer, YouTuber, and former video game pundit. On his YouTube account, he posts comedic skits, music videos, rap songs, and footage of him playing video games. Ben Lasky was born on October 2nd, 2000 in the city of Los Angeles, which is located in the state of California. Both Ashkenazi Jewish and Canary Islander ancestry can be traced back to him. His father, Mitch Lasky, is a general partner at Benchmark and was a business owner and leader in the video game industry in the past.

As a child, Ben developed a strong passion for the sport of soccer and enjoyed listening to a wide variety of music, particularly hip hop. A younger sister by the name of Anna Lasky, who appears in several of his earliest videos, is also a member of his family. In addition, he has an elder sister who goes by the name Natasha Lasky. Lasky launched his channel on YouTube on June 11, 2012, under the handle QuadecaX8, with the majority of his early videos focusing on video game commentary and the FIFA series of video games. In 2015, he was accepted into Menlo School and immediately joined the school’s soccer team.

Throughout his time as a student, Lasky remained an active member of his soccer team, rising through the ranks to become a co-captain of the squad. 2014 was the year that Lasky first started producing rap-related videos and freestyles for his YouTube channel. In February, he participated in a middle school talent event that was later uploaded on YouTube and gained widespread attention.  He published his first mixtape, titled “Work in Progress,” on September 16, 2015, while he was only 14 years old. The mixtape had 10 million streams on Spotify, with the song “Wii Music Fire” becoming its standout track by garnering more than 7 million streams on the service. On May 11, 2016, he disseminated his second mixtape with the title Nostalgia for the Now.

Lasky released his third mixtape, titled Bad Internet Rapper, on January 31, 2017, and then followed it up with the release of his fourth mixtape, titled Out of Order, in November of the same year. Lasky released two singles, titled “Clouted Up” and “Heart Attack,” at the beginning of 2018. In October of 2018, he collaborated with Saint G on the release of a collaborative effort called 1Day, which was created in a single day. Early on, Lasky’s recordings were classified as YouTube rap; however, he has since expanded his musical palette and now incorporates aspects of experimental hip hop, R&B, and pop rap into his music. His earlier work was influenced by other rappers such as Logic and J. Cole, among others. In his second studio album, titled “From Me To You,” Quadeca draws inspiration from artists like Tyler, The Creator, and Joji, as well as Childish Gambino and Frank Ocean.

Toward the end of 2018, KSI criticized Quadeca and several other YouTube rappers, alleging that they were impostors. In less than a week, Lasky fired back with a diss track called “Insecure.” Within a span of ten days, the music video received more than 8 million views. KSI provided a review of the song in November, in which he complimented it and stated that it was deserving of a diss track from himself. He fired back with his own diss track titled “Ares,” to which Lasky replied with a lukewarm response in the form of a tweet.  Logan Paul disclosed that he had wanted to work with Lasky to criticize KSI as well, but he was denied the opportunity to do so.

Voice Memos was his first studio album, and it was released on March 8, 2019. On March 22, 2019, the album reached its highest position on Billboard’s Independent Albums and Heatseekers Albums charts, at number 42. He was asked to discuss the meaning behind the lyrics to the song “Uh Huh!” during an interview with Genius. On April 12, 2019, he was a featured guest in the song “Roll the Dice,” which was included on the collaborative album New Age that KSI and Randolph released.

The song titled “Not a Diss Track” was released as a single by Lasky on April 21, 2019. On May 12, Twista responded to Lasky and a few other new rappers on Genius’s The Cosign, where he called Lasky “corny” and blasted the other new rappers as well.  A music video for the song “The Man on my Left Shoulder” was released by him on May 26. The song “Tomfoolery,” which featured Egovert, Kil, and Moxas, was published by Lasky on the 1st of August, 2019. The track titled “I Don’t Care” was released by him on September 6, and on September 27, Quadeca and Moxas released the song titled “Schoenberg.” At the conclusion of the music video for Schoenberg, the artist revealed that his upcoming album, titled From Me to You, would be released in the early part of 2020. Following the release of “Fish Outta Bacardi” with EGOVERT, Quadeca went on to release two additional songs that year: “Beamin’,” produced by Mathias Tyner, and “Beamin’.”

In March of 2020, he made the “Where’d You Go” lead single announcement for From Me To You, which he subsequently released in April of that same year. During the second interview with Genius, he was able to provide an explanation of the lyrics. Additionally, he announced the release of his second song, titled “Alone Together,” in the month of April. The track was eventually made available for purchase later that same month. In order to complete From Me To You, Quadeca went offline from all of her social media accounts in August and remained offline for the subsequent five months. On January 29, 2021, Lasky reannounced his second studio album on YouTube under the title From Me to You. The album was released under the label AWAL on March 30, 2021.  On March 20, 2021, he published the self-produced track “Sisyphus,” which quickly received considerable acclaim from the review community.
