Friedman received his degree from Hofstra University before debuting on Broadway in The Great God Brown in 1972. Friedman was born in New York City. The Visit (1973), Piaf (1981), A Soldier’s Play (1981), The Heidi Chronicles (1989), Ragtime (1998), and Twelve Angry Men (2004) are a few of the many plays that this actor has been a part of on stage.

He is a candidate for the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical, Outstanding Actor in a Play, and Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play. In “I’m Not Rappaport” (1996), he again co-starred with Walter Matthau. In more recent years, he has continued to act, most notably in the humorous drama “Unconscious” (2006), directed by Adam LeFevre, the crime film “Freedomland” (2006), directed by Samuel L. Jackson, and the thriller “I’m Not There” (2007).

In addition, he has roles in “The Savages” (2007), a drama directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman, and “Synecdoche, New York” (2008), a comedy directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman. Both of these films were released in 2007. Friedman’s most recent acting role was on Showtime’s “The Affair” (2014-present).
