Pedro Rodriguez was born on 28 July 1987, in Valencia, although he spent his childhood in Barcelona after his family relocated there in quest of better prospects. When he was ten years old, he started working as an apprentice in a tailor shop, where he learned how to make suits and other formal garments for men. His passion for women’s clothing grew over time, and by 1914 he was working at a designer boutique, where he was likely to meet his future wife, Ana Maria, a seamstress.
In 1919, Pedro and Ana Maria opened a couture shop where his creations quickly gained the attention of women in the city’s upper classes. In 1929, though, during the major Barcelona fashion show Exhibición International, he gained widespread recognition. Throughout the 1930s, he kept up his stellar reputation as a designer and formed a close friendship with fellow Spanish fashion icon Cristobal Balenciaga.
Pedro and his family fled to Rome, then Paris, and finally, London as the Civil War raged in 1936. His work was so well accepted in other countries that he was offered the chance to move there, but in 1937 he returned to Spain and opened an haute couture enclave in San Sebastian. Despite the growing prominence of pret-á-porter, Pedro Rodriguez stubbornly declined to follow the lead of Channel, Dior, Saint Laurent, etc., and release a more reasonably priced ready-to-wear line of his designs. He closed his stores and retired in 1979 because he couldn’t keep up with the fashion industry. Until his death at age 94, he lived a solitary life. The fashion industry has not forgotten him; in fact, it is stated that the likes of Miguel Elola, Robert Dalmau, Andrés Andreu, Peter Aedo, Marcelo Scarxell, and Joaquin Verd have continued his work.
In the 2009-10 season, Pedro made history by being the first player to score in six different official tournaments. He had already established himself as a valuable member of the Spanish squad throughout his club career. He has contributed greatly to Spain’s success in more than 60 games he has played. He competed in the European Championships and the FIFA World Cup twice for his country. In 2015, he returned to England and signed with the Blues of the English Premier League.
At the age of 16, Pedro began his football career in the youth academy of FC San Isidro in 2003. In 2004, he enrolled at the La Masia Academy in Barcelona after spending a single season there. He underwent tough training and earned a spot on Barcelona’s youth team. He was promoted to Barcelona’s C reserve squad in 2005. He had been with the club for two seasons before being moved up to Barcelona’s reserve team. After that, he scored 7 goals in 37 games for FC Barcelona B, helping them win promotion from Tercera División.
On January 12, 2008, Pedro played his first game for Barcelona’s first team. His debut came against Real Murcia. After that, he participated in the team’s preseason friendlies, scoring goals in games against Hibernian and the New York Red Bulls. On August 13, 2008, he made his Barcelona debut against Wisa Kraków in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. Soon after that, on September 16th against Sporting Clube de Portugal, he made his Champions League debut. After that, one of the most successful football managers of all time, Pep Guardiola, made him a regular part of the first team at Barcelona. On August 16, 2009, Pedro scored his first goal for the Catalan team in a competitive encounter when they faced Athletic Bilbao in the San Mamés stadium as part of the local Supercup.
The following week he signed his first professional deal with Barcelona, which had a £60 million buyout clause. Shortly thereafter, on August 28th, 2009, he scored his first goal in European competition for FC Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Super Cup. His first goal in the UEFA Champions League came on September 28, 2009, against FC Dynamo Kyiv. On December 16 of that year, he scored his first goal in the FIFA Club World Cup, against Atlante FC. That goal put him in the record books as the first footballer to score in six different club tournaments, including three domestic cups, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Champions League, and the Super Cup.
The buyout clause in Pedro’s contract with Barcelona was increased from €90 million to €150 million on July 5, 2011. On September 21, 2013, he debuted for his team and scored a hat trick against Rayo Vallecano. Soon after, on December 22nd, he scored another hat trick, this time against Getafe. The following year, on December 16th, 2014, he scored another hat trick while playing for Barcelona against Huesca in the Round of 32 of the Copa del Rey at Camp Nou. On June 4, 2015, he extended his contract by four years. On August 11th, 2015, in Tbilisi, he scored a game-winning goal in the UEFA Super Cup versus Sevilla.
Pedro signed a four-year contract with Chelsea, one of the wealthiest football clubs in the world, on August 20, 2015, for the upcoming 2015–16 season. He reportedly made £19 million in transfer fees, which could increase to $21.4 million with performance bonuses. On August 23, 2015, he made his debut for the English Premier League club against West Bromwich Albion, and he promptly scored his team’s first goal. His first brace came on 13 February 2016 against Newcastle United, and his second on 2 April 2016 against Aston Villa, both in the second half of the season. Following Alexandre Pato’s departure, Chelsea gave him the No. 11 jersey.
He received international acclaim for scoring the quickest goal of the 2015–16 season. On October 23, 2016, he scored a goal against Manchester United, then one of the Premier League champions, within 30 seconds of the opening whistle. A month later, on November 26th, 2016, his incredible goal against Tottenham Hotspur earned him Premier League Goal of the Month honors. Pedro is a native Spanish speaker who was born to Monserrat Ledesma Encinoso and Juan Antonio Rodrguez in Tenerife, Canary Islands.
He spent his childhood in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, on the island of Tenerife, playing football with the local youngsters. Pedro, at only 17, fell in love with Carolina Martin, who is five years his senior. He has been with his current girlfriend, Carolina, for quite some time. On April 4, 2013, the couple welcomed their first child, a son named Bryan Rodrguez Martin.
As of 2018, Pedro has a worth of €25 million on the market. In 2013, his market worth hit a record high of €30 million. It is estimated that he is currently worth roughly €8 million. His current club, Chelsea, pays him roughly €114,000 per week. In addition to his football earnings, he owns an investment portfolio worth around €6 million. In addition, he amassed a fortune thanks to endorsement deals he signed with the American sportswear firm Nike.
