Tom and Mary Lou Fabian raised their son, Patrick Fabian , to carry on the family name. Despite being born in Pittsburgh, he spent his childhood in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) was one of his father’s former employers. He obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performance from Penn State University, where he studied and attended. He uprooted his life and relocated to California, where he attended California State University, Long Beach, to receive his master’s degree.

On NBC’s Saved by the Bell: The College Years (1993–1994), Fabian played the part of Professor Jeremiah Lasky, considered one of his first and most famous appearances. In the canceled television shows Valentine (2008–2009), Working Class (2011), and Special (2019–2021), he had a significant role in each of those series’ ensemble casts. On the television shows Joan of Arcadia, Veronica Mars, Gigantic, and Big Love, he appeared in recurring parts.

Fabian has been a go-to Bad Guy for Disney and ABC Family Channel Movies. In 2009, he wed the writer and comedian Mandy Steckelberg, and they have been blessed with two kids since their union. Around the middle of 2022, Fabian signed up for a Cameo account. One of these in-jokes was “The One Piece, The One Piece is real!”, which later became its internet video meme, intercut with characters from One Piece and Kanye West’s Dark Fantasy.
