Mozzy is the stage name of American rapper Timothy Cornell Patterson, who was born on June 24, 1987. He hails from Oak Park, which is located in the city of Sacramento, California. He has record deals with CMG, Interscope, and Blackmarket Records respectively. Under the stage name Lil Tim, he made his debut as a rapper in the year 2004. In the end, he decided to perform under the stage name Mozzy and did so in 2012.
He did not garner much recognition until the release of his album Bladadah in 2015, which Rolling Stone listed as the 22nd greatest rap album of 2015 and which gave him the “best run” of the year according to Complex Magazine. Mozzy spent his childhood in the Oak Park district of Sacramento, which is located on 4th Avenue.
Because his parents were absent from his youth, his grandmother, Brenda Patterson-Usher, who was active in the Black Panther party and owned many residences in the Oak Park area, was responsible for his upbringing. Mozzy started began his education at Sacramento High School, but she finally left and went on to acquire her GED. Before making the decision in 2010 to devote all of his attention to his music career, he had a variety of jobs in the community.
At the age of 16, Mozzy made his debut as a rap artist, performing with his uncle Genaro “GP the Beast” Patterson. Mozzy released his first single as a full-time artist in 2010 under the stage name “Lil Tim.” The song was named “U Ain’t Really Like ‘Dat” and was Mozzy’s first release under that moniker. Lil Timothy N Thingz, a compilation of songs recorded by him in 2008 while he was still going by the name “Lil Tim,” was made available for purchase on August 2, 2016, by the artist.
On Mozzy’s third solo album, Goodbody Embodiment, he worked with a music business executive for the first time. This was a significant and successful cooperation. This collaboration with Oakland rapper Philthy Rich on the single “I’m Just Being Honest,” which was released at the beginning of May 2014, sparked a controversy that has persisted for a significant amount of time. In the months preceding up to the release of his album Still Krazy, the Compton rapper YG released a track named “City Mad” that featured Mozzy and associate “Slim 400.” Nef the Pharaoh, a rapper from Vallejo, released his album Neffy Got Wings in 2016, and it had a tune titled “Devil’s Team” that was a collaboration with Mozzy.
In 2019, Mozzy and Gunplay joined forces to create a full-length album of their collaborative work titled Chop Stixx and Banana Clips. In an article he wrote on Freemusicempire, Dan-O applauded the initiative, saying that “Gunplay and Mozzy paint images so you can see the crook’s full trip, not just the sentence.” Dan-O was referring to the fact that the pair had created a visual representation of the story. Mozzy was one of the artists that contributed to the song “Last One Standing” by Skylar Grey, which was released on the soundtrack for the film Venom: Let There Be Carnage on September 30, 2021.
Other contributors to the song were Eminem and Polo G.Mixtapes by Mozzy, such as “Bladadah,” which have been his most commercially successful endeavors. Money Means Mozzy was the title of his first solo mixtape, which was published in 2011, and he has already produced 10 further mixtapes by the year 2016.
In 2015, he received recognition from Complex magazine for having the “greatest run of 2015” and from Rolling Stone for having the 22nd best rap album of 2015. Both of these accolades were awarded in the year 2015. In 2016, Mozzy made the move from Sacramento to Los Angeles, California, and simultaneously released the album Gang Related Siblings, which included fellow Oak Park native and producer June. Both of these events took place in California.
The mixtape Mandatory Check that Mozzy released in 2016 debuted at position no. 7 on the Billboard Rap Albums list. First Up Top Ahk was Mozzy’s first studio album, and it was released in August of 2017. His second studio album, titled Gangland Landlord was published in 2018, and it reached its highest position on the US Billboard 200 at number 57.
Beyond Bulletproof was the title of his fourth studio album, which was released on May 1, 2020. The thirteen-song album is the follow-up to 2019’s Internal Affairs and features the hits “Pricetag,” “Ain’t Perfect,” “Overcame,” and “Big Homie from the Hood.” Mozzy collaborated with a number of talented musicians for the album, some of them including King Von, G Herbo, Eric Bellinger, and Polo G.
The album made its debut on the Billboard 200 at position number 43, making it Mozzy’s highest-charting release at the time. Mozzy made his comeback on September 23, 2020, with the release of his second project for the year 2020 titled Occupational Hazard. He referred to it as his favorite endeavor and added that the album represents a return to his “classic” style of music. Mozzy kicked out the year 2021 by releasing the tune “Bompton to Oak Park,” which was a collaboration with YG, who is also a rapper from California.
It was the first track from a collaborative album that year called Community Service, which was released on May 21 of that year. The single was the album’s lead-off single. On the Billboard 200, the album reached its highest position at number 88. Untreated Trauma was the title of Mozzy’s sixth studio album, and it was released in September of the same year.
The album opened at number 19 on the Billboard 200, making it his highest-charting album to date, surpassing Beyond Bulletproof in that regard. Mozzy inked his major-label deal in a joint venture with CMG and Interscope Records on February 10, 2022, and not long after that, he released the song “Real Ones” featuring Roddy Ricch. Mozzy released the song “I’m Just Bein’ Honest” in March 2014, which served as the catalyst for a dispute with another local rapper named Lavish D.
However, there was a long-running dispute between Oak Park gangs such as Fab and Stunna Gang and Guttah Team and Starz, which began at Meadowview and G Parkway in Sacramento. This conflict pitted Oak Park gangs against each other. On March 15, members of Lavish D’s “Startup” gang ambushed a friend of Mozzy’s who was visiting the Arden Fair Mall in Sacramento.
The victim was from Oak Park. The Sacramento Police Department investigated and connected the first altercation between the two gangs to a further nine shootings that occurred after the altercation. Mozzy was taken into custody three times by the Sacramento Police Department for various possession charges between the years 2005 and 2008. These crimes included unlawful possession of a handgun and escaping police. The next year, in 2014, he was arrested once again and sentenced to time in San Quentin State Prison, during which his brother and collaborator E Mozzy released the album Free Mozzy.
Following his release, Mozzy made the decision to devote his whole attention to his music and released four solo albums in 2015. Due to the fact that he was on probation, Mozzy was not allowed to travel outside of the state of California until 2017. This was the case even though he had requests to perform all over the country and the globe. During a traffic check in Las Vegas in July of 2018, Mozzy was taken into custody for possession of a firearm.
