Michael Steven Bublé was born to fisherman Lewis Bublé and Amber on September 9, 1975, in Burnaby, British Columbia. His father was a fisherman, so his mother and Demetrio Santaga, his Italian grandfather, raised him and exposed him to music. The influence of his granddad on his future as a singer was profound. He graduated from both Seaforth Elementary and Cariboo Hill High.
His family first heard him sing when he was 13 and he sang “White Christmas” by Bing Crosby. So he enrolled in voice lessons to hone his singing skills. Back when he was only 16 years old, he made his stage debut at a nightclub. His grandfather would offer free plumbing work at local bars in exchange for letting young Bublé perform on stage with local artists. When he was discovered to be underage, he was disqualified from a local talent contest he had won.
He was so talented, though, that the event’s organizer suggested he enter the “Canadian Young Talent Search,” which he ultimately won. Canada’s own Michael Bublé has made it big in the entertainment industry as a singer, songwriter, and actor. From an early age, he had jazz’s bright future in his sights. Michael Bublé became a popular classic jazz and soul singer in part because he emulated the style of such jazz greats as Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney, and Ella Fitzgerald. This singer has received multiple “Grammy” awards, and his unique sound and flair have garnered him millions of followers around the world. His ever-growing fame may be traced back to his grandfather, who first exposed him to music.
His grandfather also gave him many chances to perform in front of famous people and artists, which shaped his career path. Michael’s interest in singing was spurred by his grandfather’s record collection, which included jazz and soul music. He developed his voice early on and became a singer while other musicians take decades to do so. Album sales records were shattered across the board thanks to his powerfully emotive singing. He’s dabbled in acting and songwriting in addition to singing jazz. Canadian and international music accolades have been bestowed on this singing phenomenon.
For his first professional performance, he was cast as Elvis in the Vancouver production of the 1996 musical Red Rock Diner. After meeting Debbie Timuss, a singer and dancer, he moved to Toronto in 1998 to be in the musical “Forever Swing.” In 1997, with the documentary “Bid Band Bang!,” he made his broadcasting debut. In 2000, Michael McSweeney, an aide to former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, heard one of the young hopeful’s records and helped spread the word.
As the former prime minister and his wife were so taken with his skills, they asked him to perform at their daughter’s wedding. After that, he met David Foster, a Warner Brothers music executive and Grammy-winning, producer. Along with Gwyneth Paltrow and Huey Lewis, he made his big screen debut in the 2000 film Duets. He then went on to star in “Totally Blonde” and “The Snow Walker,” both of which were successful.
David Foster signed him to his record label, 143 Records. Michael Bublé, his third studio album, was released in February 2003 and marked his debut on a big label. The self-titled album topped the charts in Australia, the United Kingdom, and Canada. Come Fly With Me, his debut live DVD, was published in 2004 and was quickly followed by a two-disc collection of holiday music from his prior albums. In June of 2009, Michael Bublé released his third DVD, titled “Michael Bublé Meets Madison Square Garden,” a compilation of his most notable performances from the venue.
His sixth studio album, titled “Crazy Love,” was released in October of 2009, and it quickly became one of Australia’s best-selling albums and a number-one hit on Billboard’s “Canadian Adult Contemporary” list. In season six of the British talent show “The X Factor,” broadcast on ITV, he played the role of celebrity coach. At the 2010 “Vancouver Winter Olympic Games,” he took part in the traditional relay of the Olympic flame before the opening ceremony. Afterward, he joined other Canadian celebrities onstage for a contemporary rendition of “Maple Leaf Forever” during the closing ceremony.
The US and UK charts were dominated by his seventh studio album, “Christmas,” which was released in October 2011. His newest studio album, titled “Nobody but me,” came out in October 2016. He launched 30 countries into selling his perfume line in the same month. ‘Love,’ his ninth studio album, came out in November of 2018. The United Kingdom and Canada both ranked it as their number-one single.
He gave an interview to the “Daily Mail,” and soon after, speculations began circulating that he was going to retire.
The talented singer’s management, however, has shot off the allegations. He will be featured in a commercial for “Bubly Sparkling Water” during the 2019 “Super Bowl,” it was reported in January. Tickets for his show at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium for his “Crazy Love” tour sold out in a day, and he performed in front of a record 100,000 fans.
