Martin Solveig Bio

Martin Picandet was born on born September 22, 1976. Every week, he broadcasts his show C’est La Vie on radio stations all around the world, including Radio FG back home in his native country. Mixture Stereophonic is the name of his record company. In 2011, DJ Mag placed Solveig at number 29. He has worked with such notable artists as Madonna, Kele of Bloc Party, and Dragonette.

Martin Solveig received his early musical instruction as a member of The Paris Boys Choir, or Les petits chanteurs de Sainte-Croix de Neuilly, where he eventually rose to the position of soprano soloist under the baton of François Polgár. At 18, he began his career as a DJ, playing at such renowned Parisian hotspots as L’Enfer, Le Queen, and Les Bains Douches.

Prior to that, he had spent his childhood singing in the church choir and studying classical music. After discovering the depths of electronic music while working in a record store at age 18, he quickly found himself playing at some of Paris’s most illustrious nightclubs. Africanism was a collaboration between Solveig and Bob Sinclar, released in 2001. Solveig contributed the song “Edony” by Sinclar. After the success of the track, the DJ put out an album after finishing university.

The 2002 album Sur la Terre, released on his own label Mixture, featured both live and electronic accompaniment inspired by African rhythms, including a remix of “Malan” by Malian singer Salif Keita. The 2004 release of “Rocking Music,” sung by Jay Sebag, and the 2005 release of another full-length, Hedonist, marked Solveig’s shift toward American funk and rock. In 2008, he released C’est la Vie, his third album; but, it wasn’t until 2011’s appropriately titled Smash that he became a mainstream success.

Madonna became interested in Solveig after hearing their collaboration on the chart-topping track “Hello” with the Canadian band Dragonette, which was included on the album Smash. The singer trusted him enough to hire him for her MDNA album, and they became fast friends while working together. The Night Out EP, “Hey Now” as a duet with the Cataracs, and “Blow” with Laidback Luke are all examples of Solveig’s continuous collaboration with others following the release of her debut studio album, MDNA.

In 2015, Solveig released “Intoxicated” with the production team GTA and “+1,” which included the vocals of Sam White and was influenced by house music. The following year saw the release of “Do It Right” featuring Tkay Maidza and “Places” featuring Ina Wroldsen, while 2017 saw the release of “All Stars” with Alma.

The time had come to finally compile these songs with others to form an album that would give listeners a more complete picture of Martin’s musical universe. The year 2002 saw the release of “Sur la Terre”. The album featured songs like “Ebony” and “Heart Of Africa” as well as “I’m a good man”, “Someday,” and “Linda,” a humorous homage to his Afro masters Fela and Serge Gainsbourg. This debut album was widely praised by critics and received positive responses from throughout the globe. Martin was able to collaborate with notable names in the industry like Kenny Dope and DJ Spen, and he received requests to remix groundbreaking tracks by artists like Cunnie Williams, Soldiers of Twilight, and most notably Salif Keita.

The events leading up to the release of this remix started off rather normally, with communications between record labels, but things really got going with the release of the infectious, global tune. Martin gave the song a new orchestration that morphed it into an afro-disco storm. He was satisfied with the outcome and chose to distribute it under the “Mixture” label he had founded. DJs including Tony Humphries, Louie Vega, and David Morales played the remix often for almost a whole year. A lot of radio stations in different countries played it, including France, Italy, Portugal, Australia, South Africa, etc., making its creator very pleased. By remaining true to Salif Keita’s original message, he was able to garner the support of prominent DJs and appeal to a large, general audience. There are already over 150 editions of “Madan” available in 21 countries.

The album “Suite”, a collection of several of Martin’s remixes and a few unreleased tracks, features “Rocking music” as one of its bonus tracks. Martin came to the conclusion that he had reached a crossroads and that, in order to avoid falling into a rut or gaining the kind of label that always sticks a little too firmly behind an artist’s back, he needed to pull back from African influences. Martin had the opportunity to show off his occasionally restrained disco side during a second meeting with Jay Sebag. The publication of “Rocking Music” in October 2004 introduced the artist to a far larger audience and, for the first time, won over the UK public.

After making an impact during the 2004 Winter Music Conference in Miami thanks to support from Mousse T, Pete Tong, and Erick Morillo, “Rocking Music” became a club staple all throughout Europe thanks to heavy rotation on BBC Radio 1. Martin’s producer cap never gets in the way of his DJ hat. An eternal nomad, he plays his music behind turntables at clubs all over the world. More than 20 nations were visited on his 2004 Rocking Music Tour. From a private party for Karl Lagerfeld to the open-air festival in Carthage, Martin always found passionate audiences wherever he went: Sydney, New York, Ibiza, Singapore, Barcelona, Zagreb, London, Lisbon, Dubai, and Paris.
