Marshawn Terrell Lynch (born April 22, 1986) is an unrestricted free agent in the National Football League. He has spent 12 seasons in the National Football League (NFL), predominantly with the Seattle Seahawks, and is known as “Beast Mode” for his powerful rushing style and consistent ability to run over opponents and break tackles. Lynch played collegiate football for the University of California at Berkeley, where he was an All-American and the school’s all-time leading rusher. He was drafted in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills, with whom he spent three complete seasons until joining the Seahawks during the 2010 season.
Lynch made four consecutive Pro Bowl appearances with the Seahawks from 2010 to 2015, was named to one first-team All-Pro team, and twice led the league in rushing touchdowns. In Super Bowl XLVIII, he also assisted the club in winning their first Super Bowl triumph. His Beast Quake touchdown run in the 2010–11 NFL playoffs, in which he ran 67 yards while breaking nine tackles, is widely regarded as one of the best in NFL history. Lynch retired in 2015 after a season marred by injuries, but he returned to the league in 2017 with the Oakland Raiders. Lynch retired for the second time after two seasons, until reuniting with the Seahawks in 2019 for their last regular season game and playoff run.
Lynch grew up with three elder siblings in Oakland, California. Delisa, his mother, formerly held the 200-meter track record at Oakland Technical High School, which Marshawn subsequently attended, reared him. Lynch began playing youth football in Oakland when he was a child.
Lynch was a four-sport star for the Bulldogs at Oakland Tech, competing in football, basketball, track, and wrestling. Lynch rushed for 1,722 yards and 23 touchdowns in only eight regular-season games in 2003, plus an additional 375 yards and 10 touchdowns in two postseason games. He was named a PrepStar and SuperPrep All-American, as well as the East Bay Player of the Year in San Francisco. [8] He was a member of the Oakland Tech basketball squad, which included future Cal standout Leon Powe. Lynch was a key member of his team’s run to the state semi-finals. Lynch knew and frequently competed against film director and writer Ryan Coogler, who grew up in the same Oakland neighbourhood as Lynch.
Lynch was also a standout in track and field, where he competed primarily as a sprinter but also in jumping events. As a senior, he set a personal best in the 100-meter sprint with a timing of 10.94 seconds, as well as peak leaps of 1.94 metres (6 feet, 4 inches) in the high jump and 6.38 metres (20 feet, 10 inches) in the long jump.
On the football field, Lynch was a versatile player. In high school, he was a defensive back who also played quarterback, wide receiver, and linebacker. He was ranked second in the country at running back by Rivals.com, behind Adrian Peterson.
When he organised a successful food drive for his hometown in 2013, he was included in Red Bull’s “Athletes Give Back” campaign. Because of his friendliness and benevolent demeanour, he is also universally adored by his teammates. Lynch once handed his knapsack to younger teammate Doug Baldwin after Baldwin enquired about where he obtained it during his first stay in Seattle. Lynch was the lone member of the Seahawks organisation who travelled to the airport to console the late father of defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. He discovered a missing wallet at a gas station outside of Seattle in 2014. To return it, Lynch went to the address.
Lynch had a tendency of eating Skittles during games that he began when he was in high school. On December 5, 2011, after Lynch was seen eating Skittles during a nationally televised game, Mars offered him a two-year supply of the candy as well as a unique dispenser for his locker. He was fined $10,000 on December 30, 2011, for wearing cleats with a Skittles motif. An official deal with Skittles was revealed on January 28, 2014. In addition to personal remuneration, the deal stated that for each touchdown he scored in Super Bowl XLVIII, $10,000 would be donated to his Fam First Foundation.
Lynch was a member of the California Golden Bears football team while at the University of California, Berkeley. He studied social welfare as a major. Lynch’s nickname in college was “Money.” Lynch has a number of relatives that have also worked in the NFL. Robert Jordan, a wide receiver who played alongside Lynch at Cal from 2004 to 2006, JaMarcus Russell, a former Oakland Raiders quarterback, and journeyman quarterback Josh Johnson are his cousins. Lynch’s uncle, Lorenzo Lynch, played in the NFL for eleven years.
Lynch, in contrast to former Bills running back Willis McGahee, embraced the Buffalo community while in town, as ESPN’s Kenny Mayne remarked in an interview. Lynch talks about his fondness of Applebee’s in the video interview, which has gone viral, and his teammates joke that he loves chain eateries. Lynch is also recognised for his active participation in the community. Lynch also enjoys buying grills and claims to have been wearing gold jewellery since his junior year of high school. Lynch got a personalised Seahawks grill in time for the 2012 season after the 2011 season.
Lynch is a cannabis entrepreneur who plans to produce a line of cannabis products under the Dodi Blunts brand in 2021. The firm sells blunts to dispensaries all around the Bay Area, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Last Prisoner Project, a drug policy reform organisation. Lynch claims that he has been a cannabis user for a long time and that it has helped him cope with pain during his football career.Lynch joined the Oakland Roots SC of the USL Championship’s ownership group in April 2021. In the same month, he became a brand ambassador and investor for the PFL.
