Markus Schulz was born on 3 February 1975. Early in 2013, following a series of impromptu performances that were immediately followed by one another, Schulz and Ferry Corsten made the announcement that they would be producing and performing together as the new electronic dance music combo New World Punx. Their first performance in an arena took place at Madison Square Garden. Markus Schulz is a club DJ who also presents the popular radio show Global DJ Broadcast.
He was born in Germany, although he has since relocated his base of operations to Miami. When Schulz first began his career as a remixer in the early 1990s, some of the artists he worked with included Madonna, 2 Unlimited, Backstreet Boys, and RuPaul. Without You Near, a collection of productions issued by Armada served as the basis for his first album, which he released in 2005. Thoughts Become Things was an album that was credited to Schulz’s Dakota persona and was released by the label in the year 2009. 2011 will see the release of Dakota’s second studio album, titled Thoughts Become Things II. By 2012, he had resumed publishing under his own name in the works that he had created.
Scream was released in 2012, the same year that DJ Times named him the Number One DJ in America, and the sequel, Scream 2, was distributed the following year in 2014. In the time between those two releases, Schulz collaborated with Ferry Corsten on a project called New World Punx, which the two of them maintained even as they continued to pursue their individual solo careers. The album Watch the World was released in 2016, and it began its run on the Billboard Electronic chart at position number four.
In addition, the album had a second disc that featured ten acoustic renditions of each song, each of which had been recorded with a different special guest vocalist. The year after that, Schulz contributed the 15th episode of Blackhole’s ongoing trance series titled “In Search of Sunrise.”
Over the course of the past ten years, Markus Schulz has developed his own signature style of fusion music by fusing the distinct musical identities of progressive music, trance music, and house music. Because of the combined impact of his headlining DJ sets, releases on the Armada and Coldharbour labels, and his extremely popular radio show, Global DJ Broadcast, he is currently at the vanguard of the electronic dance music movement in the United States.
This success has been reflected in weekly sets played in front of tens of thousands of people, a GDJB listenership up in the millions, and critically acclaimed albums, such as ‘Do You Dream?’ and most recently ‘Scream’. In 2008, Schulz made his debut at position # 10 on the DJ Mag Top 100 chart, and ever since then, he has continued to hold a string of increasingly high-ranking positions. He was chosen America’s Best DJ by readers of DJ Times magazine for 2012–2013, and he currently retains that distinction. Because he performs at more than 150 events annually, he has established himself as the most in-demand international DJ based in the United States.
He has stunned crowds in every major metropolis with his natural engagement with the audience, faultless harmonic mixing, intelligent song selection, and now famous open-till-close shows. Schulz’s DJ career has, for the most part, followed a trajectory very similar to that of his productions. After spending much of the early 2000s focusing on the musical territory that lies between trance and progressive, he started expanding his fan base to include people from further and further away. When he signed with the heavyweight DJ agency known as David Lewis Productions in 2004, his career was given a big boost.
David Lewis Productions is also the home of Armin van Buuren. Now a permanent resident at the world’s largest and most famous clubs, arenas, and festivals, he consistently presents his one-of-a-kind trance-progressive vision on a weekly basis. In Europe, he has demolished Transmission, Nature One, Dance Valley, Electronic Family, Sunrise, and Tomorrowland. Additionally, he has worked tent-pegs loose at Creamfields, and gridlocked Global Gatherings, and played open-till-close sets at Space in Miami, Avalon in Los Angeles, and Amnesia in Ibiza.
Even further afield, he has built floor uproar across South East Asia and Australia. In the United States, the massive Electric Daisy, Nocturnal, and Ultra Festivals have also felt Schulz’s pressure. Schulz was voted the best American DJ at the 2008 IDMAs and has been listed in the top 10 of DJ Mag’s world’s top 10 polls for the past four years in a row. He is also consistently ranked as trance’s second-greatest spinner in the FTB, Trance Addict, and Trance Podium lists.
Markus’s own productions, which perfectly intersect the quality/quantity axis, have been important components in marshaling clubgoers and music lovers to his sound. [Clubbers and music lovers] have been drawn to his sound for a variety of reasons. Throughout the course of the past half-decade, singles such as “First Time” and “Without You Near”, “Fly to Colours,” “Never Be the Same,” and “I Am” (2007), “Perfect” and “Cause You Know” (2008), and most recently anthems such as “The New World” and “Do You Dream?” have each played an important role in the progression of the band’s sound. Additionally, Markus is frequently involved in the production process.
