Kerri Lee Green is an American actress, best known for her roles in The Goonies, Summer Rental, and Lucas. In addition, she directed and co-wrote the film Bellyfruit in 1999. When Ke Huy Quan accepted the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor on Sunday, one of the people he tearfully thanked was Jeff Cohen, “my Goonies brother for life.” Cohen played Lawrence “Chunk” Cohen alongside Quan’s Richard “Data” Wang in Richard Donner’s beloved 1985 adventure comedy before becoming an entertainment lawyer and, many years later, inking Quan’s contract for Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Cohen isn’t the only Goonie still in touch with Quan, though. The newly-minted Oscar winner told reporters in the press room on Sunday that he received congratulatory messages from every single one of his old co-stars, including Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, and Martha Plimpton. “I adore each and every one of them. Every single one of them was so delighted,” he remarked. “We’re family forever. Goonies never say die.”
“When I first began, when I was a youngster, I went by my birth name, which is Ke Huy Quan. I remember when things became really rough my boss told me that maybe it would be better if you had an American-sounding name. And I was so desperate for a job that I would do anything… When I decided to get back into acting, the very first thing that I wanted to do was to go back to my birth name. Tonight, to see Ariana open that envelope and speak the words “Ke Huy Quan,” it was a moment for me that is really one of a kind and unforgettable.
