Joseph Robert Schobert, anseph Robert Schobert, was born on November 6, 1993, and an Acker now a free agent. He is currently a free agent. They chose him in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. The Cleveland Browns were the team that made the selection. In 2015, Schobert was awarded the Jack Lambert Trophy for being the top linebacker in the country based on his performance while playing college football at Wisconsin.
Although Schobert’s primary position in high school was that of a running back, he also returned punts and kicks and, when necessary, played the safety position. He was a member of the Waukesha West squad that ultimately triumphed in the WIAA Division 1 state championship as a junior. As a result of his 38 carries for 296 yards, he established a new record for running during the championship game. He had for 1,452 yards and scored 23 touchdowns during his final year of high school.
One of the most prominent college ranking systems did not provide a rating or ranking to Schobert as a college. He has yet to receive any scholarship offers from NCAA Division I. Initially, he was informed that he might try out for the Wisconsin Badgers after the 2012 season had begun, but he was determined to play for the Badgers. He intended to enroll at the University of North Dakota, a Division I FCS school, and join the Fighting Hawks as a walk-on player. This was because Wisconsin, the only Division I football team in the state, was not interested in attending.
Jed Kennedy, the head football coach at Kenosha Bradford, took notice of Schobert’s remarkable performance in the WFCA Large School All-Star Game in July of 2012. Schobert participated in the game as a running back, safety, and kick returner, and he racked up 145 all-purpose yards, two tackles, two pass breakups, and an interception. When he found out that Schobert’s only chance to play collegiate football at the Division I level was as a walk-on at North Dakota, he reached out to individuals he knew who worked in the sports department at the University of Wisconsin.
Bret Bielema, the head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers, introduced Schobert to the possibility of a preferred walk-on position the day before he was scheduled to leave for Grand Forks, North Dakota. The following is a quote from Schobert himself: “They had a great coaching staff upstairs.” They were enjoyable to me. When Madison made the offer at the very last second, I felt I would have been able to fit in. It was a dream come true for a youngster from Wisconsin, and I had no choice but to seize the opportunity. “The rest, as they say, is history.”
During the 2014 season, the Badgers replaced all four linebackers who had started for them in 2013. Schobert and Vince Biegel took over for the starting outside linebackers, while Derek Landisch and Marcus Trotter took over for the starting inside linebackers. Marcus Trotter, a former teammate of Schobert’s, referred to Biegel as “a hamster on a wheel, man.” Trotter’s description of Biegel came from the fact that he was the complete opposite of Schobert.
He is constantly on the go. On the other hand, he said, “Schobert is the complete opposite. He maintains a calm demeanor at all times.2014 was a breakthrough year for Schobert, as he started each of the 14 games he played. After the season, he earned the first spot on the team in terms of pass breakups with seven, the second spot on the team in terms of tackles for a loss with 13.5, and the fourth spot on the team in terms of tackles with 69.
Because of this, Schobert was selected as an honorable mention in the All-Big Ten by the majority of the coaches. Schobert’s defensive effort against Nebraska on November 15 earned him the title Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for week 8. With 11 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, one pass defense, and a fumble recovery, Schobert finished with 11 tackles.
In 2015, the Badgers once again went through the process of replacing the starting inside linebackers, and Schobert and Biegel once again began opposite one another. Biegel was included on several season award watchlists, while Schobert was not. Despite this, Schobert was on the watch list for the Lott IMPACT Trophy and a semifinalist for the Bednarik and Lombardi Awards.
Schobert led the Badgers in total tackles with 13, and he also added four tackles for a loss and two sacks in the first game of the season, which Wisconsin played against Alabama against Alabama. The Big Ten awarded him a co-Defensive Player of the Week after week five after the game between Wisconsin and Iowa, which took place in Madison and ended with Iowa winning 6–10 over Wisconsin.
During the game, Schobert racked up eight tackles, three sacks, five quarterback pressures, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. He also earned 3.5 tackles for loss. The defensive back Desmond King of Iowa, who recorded nine tackles and two interceptions, was also a candidate for Defensive Player of the Week. He split the award with King.
When Schobert raced for 57 yards on a fake punt on fourth and one against Maryland in week 7, he could throw back to his days as a tailback in high school. Late in November, he accepted an offer to participate in the 2016 Senior Bowl, which will be held at Ladd–Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Alabama. Additionally, Schobert was selected as the Big Ten Butkus–Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year after the regular season. Additionally, he was chosen as a member of the First-team All-Big Ten by both the coaches and the media.
