Joe Biden Bio

A politician from the United States, Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. was born on November 20, 1942. He is now serving as the 46th and current President of the United States of America. He was a member of the Democratic Party and had previously served as the 47th Vice President under President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2017. Before that, he had represented Delaware in the United States Senate from 1973 until 2009.

Although he was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Biden relocated to Delaware with his family in the year 1953. After receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware, he went on to work for his legal education at Syracuse University. His first election was to the New Castle County Council in 1970, and his second election was to the United States Senate in 1972.

As a senator, Biden was responsible for drafting and leading the push to enact two pieces of legislation: the Violence Against Women Act and the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act. Additionally, he was in charge of supervising six confirmation hearings for the United States Supreme Court, including the acrimonious hearings for Clarence Thomas and Robert Bork. Between the years 1988 and 2008, Biden made failed bids for the candidacy of the Democratic Party for president.

In 2008, President Obama selected Joe Biden to be his running mate, and throughout his two years as vice president, Joseph Biden served as a close advisor to President Obama. During the presidential election of 2020, Vice President Joe Biden and his running partner, Kamala Harris, were victorious against the incumbents Donald Trump and Kevin Pence. His presidency was the first to have a female vice president and he became the oldest president in the history of the United States.

Within the context of the COVID-19 outbreak and the following recession, Vice President Joe Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act. It was laws on industry and infrastructure that he signed, and they were bipartisan. The Build Back Better Act, which he sponsored, was unsuccessful in Congress; but, many provisions of the bill were integrated into the Inflation Reduction Act, which he signed into law in 2022 after his signature.

It was Vice President Biden who made the appointment of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. By negotiating an agreement to lift the debt limit, he collaborated with Republicans in Congress to find a solution to the dilemma that the United States was facing in 2023 around the debt ceiling. In terms of international policy, Vice President Biden reinstated the United States’ participation in the Paris Agreement. It was at his direction that the United States completely withdrew its soldiers from Afghanistan, which brought an end to the war in Afghanistan. During this time, the Afghan government fell apart, and the Taliban took control of the country.

Through the imposition of sanctions on Russia and the authorization of civilian and military assistance to Ukraine, he reacted to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Biden announced that he would be providing military assistance to Israel during the battle between Israel and Hamas in 2023. He also criticized the conduct of Hamas and other Palestinian terrorists as acts of terrorism.

Announcing his intention to run for the nomination of the Democratic Party in the presidential election of 2024, Biden made his announcement in April of 2023. On August 27, 1966, Biden wed Neilia Hunter, a student at Syracuse University, after overcoming the opposition of her parents to her marrying a Roman Catholic. Neilia Hunter was a student at Syracuse University. It was a Catholic church in Skaneateles, New York, that served as the venue for their wedding.

Joseph R. “Beau” Biden III, Robert Hunter Biden, and Naomi Christina “Amy” Biden were the three children that they had together during their marriage. In the year 1968, Biden graduated from the Syracuse University College of Law with a Juris Doctor degree. In his first year of law school, he copied a law review article for a paper that he prepared, which resulted in his failing a course. As a result, he received a ranking of 76th among 85 other students in the class. The year 1969 marked his admission to the bar in Delaware.

He subsequently said that he “thought of myself as a Republican” while working as a clerk at a legal office in Wilmington that was led by William Prickett, a prominent local Republican. As a result of his distaste for the conservative racial policies of the incumbent Democratic governor of Delaware, Charles L. Terry, he showed his support for Russell W. Peterson, a more liberal Republican candidate who ultimately beat Terry in 1968.

Because of his antipathy for Richard Nixon, the Republican presidential candidate, local Republicans made an effort to recruit Biden; nevertheless, he registered as an Independent candidate instead. Biden began his legal career in 1969, initially working as a public defender and later at a business that was led by a locally prominent Democrat. This individual appointed Biden to the Democratic Forum, which was an organization that was working to reform and revive the state party. Subsequently, Biden reregistered as a representative of the Democratic Party.

Moreover, he and another attorney established a legal practice together. He did not find corporate law to be appealing, and he did not find criminal practice to be lucrative. The management of assets was a source of additional revenue for him. On a liberal platform that included support for public housing in the suburbs, Biden campaigned for the seat on the New Castle County Council representing the fourth district in the year 1970 during his campaign.

Henry R. Folsom, a Republican, had previously held the seat, and he proposed to compete for reelection in the 5th District once the boundaries of the council were redrawn. It was on January 5, 1971, that Vice President Joe Biden assumed office after he triumphed against Republican Lawrence T. Messick in the general election. After his term ended on January 1, 1973, Democrat Francis R. Swift took over as president of the United States.
