He was one of my favourite people. Every character I play is likable to me in the same manner, even if they are disliked by others. To put it another way, we’re all heroes in our own stories. Acting in the plays I’ve written has always seemed to me to be the second most terrifying thing in the world, with sitting at home and not doing it being the first. I

And I’ve found that portraying a character in a life-or-death scenario like this allows me to let go of those fears in a healthy, cathartic way. I was robbed and pushed into a concrete pillar in New York one night, and

I gave an interview in which I stated that I entirely understand why they attacked me. It was a low-income, predominantly black community. ‘You stupid moron,’ someone said in an article to me. Defending these individuals is more offensive. ‘Defending them is more racist.’ He’s right, and the opening scenario is based on it. The theatre has a peculiar quality to it. My characters frequently condemn elitism, but the play is set in a theatre with a limited audience. I’ve appeared in cheesy popcorn flicks, the type of thing that would make an actor blush, yet those films reach a much larger audience. You’re basically performing for wealthy folks when you’re in a play. [on portraying Mark Zuckerberg in the 2010 film The Social Network] Before seeing the movie, I knew nothing about him.
