Gerald Edward McNertney is a former professional baseball player and coach from the United States of America. He was born on August 7, 1936. 1964 he was a Major League Baseball catcher and continued playing from 1966 until 1973.McNertney spent his high school and college years at Gilbert High School and Iowa State University before signing with the Chicago White Sox in 1958. McNertney was born in Boone, Iowa.
He played first base and outfield during his first three seasons in the minor leagues. He transitioned from first baseman to catcher in his fourth professional season in 1961 while playing for the Charleston White Sox of the Class A South Atlantic League.
