Jeremy Thomas Camp is a contemporary Christian music singer and composer who was born in the United States on January 12, 1978, in the city of Lafayette, Indiana. He has released eleven studio albums, four of which were awarded the RIAA’s Gold certification, in addition to two live albums. The songs written by Camp are a variety of rock-influenced styles, including slow ballads and faster tunes.
In addition to being nominated for three American Music Awards and a Grammy Award in 2010, he was awarded five GMA Dove Awards for his album Speaking Louder Than Before, which was also nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album. In the film I Still Believe, which was released in 2020 and was based on Camp’s first marriage, the role of Camp was played by the New Zealand actor KJ Apa.
Lafayette, Indiana is where Jeremy Camp began his life. His father Tom, who served as the pastor of Harvest Chapel, which is affiliated with Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, instructed him in the guitar’s fundamentals. Following the completion of his high school education, Mr. Camp enrolled in and attended Calvary Chapel Bible College in Murrieta, California, for a period of two years. While there, he received an associate of theology degree and was ordained as a pastor.
When one of the worship leaders overheard Camp playing in the kitchen of the school, he strongly encouraged Camp to join the worship team and contribute his musical talents. Soon after that, he became known throughout Southern California for his worship leading and playing.
The year 2000 saw the publication of his debut album under his own independent label, titled Burden Me. In 2002, he worked with BEC Recordings to produce his debut album for a label titled Stay. Camp has amassed a total of 32 number-one songs on Christian radio, spanning all genres and formats, including Contemporary Hit Radio, Hot AC, Rock, and Inspirational Charts.
His album Beyond Measure contributed six consecutive No. 1 songs, one of which was “Let It Fade,” which remained at the top of the airplay charts on adult contemporary radio for ten consecutive weeks. “Understand” was the title of his debut single. He has produced 10 music videos, including “Understand,” “Walk by Faith,” “Take You Back,” “Tonight,” “Give You Glory,” “Let It Fade,” “I Am Willing” (a song that was not included on any of his albums), “Speaking Louder Than Before,” “The Way,” and “Reckless.” “Understand,” “Walk by Faith,” “Take You Back,” “Tonight,” and “Give You Glory” are some of the titles.
Both “Take You Back” and “Lay Down My Pride” by Camp reached number one on the charts of Christian music. In addition to this, the readers of Christianity Today magazine gave him the award for Best Male Artist in their 2005 Readers’ Choice Music Awards. Additionally, Camp was awarded the Songwriter of the Year title by ASCAP in 2005. He also took home the Dove Award for Male Vocalist of the Year for the second year in a row.
Music Inspired by the Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was a compilation album released in September 2005 that contained original songs written by various Christian artists for the 2005 film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. In 2005, he recorded the song “Open Up Your Eyes” for inclusion on the album. Gold certifications from the RIAA were awarded to Camp’s albums Stay and Carried Me: The Worship Project as the year came to an end.
At the twenty-eighth annual ASCAP Music Awards, Camp was given the most prestigious prize possible: Songwriter of the Year. His songs “Take You Back” and “This Man” garnered him this honor. In addition, the song “Take You Back” won him the title of Song of the Year. Camp was the recipient of the CCM Reader’s Choice Award for Favorite Artist in 2006, as well as the award for Favorite Male Artist.
He was a nominee for the Dove Award for Special Event Album of the Year, which was ultimately presented to Music Inspired by The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. He also participated in the award ceremony. He came out with a limited edition of his smash album, which was titled Restored. Along with a letter to his devoted followers, Restored: The Deluxe Gold Edition has four brand-new musical compositions.
At the beginning of 2006, Camp went back into the studio to record Beyond Measure, and the album was finally made available to the public on October 31, 2006. Don’t Wait, the album that Camp’s wife is credited with performing was released in September of 2006, and Camp is also credited as the record’s producer. Midway through the month of August saw the release of “Tonight,” the first single to be taken from the album Beyond Measure. “Tonight” went on to become the most-played song on Christian contemporary hit radio.
In 2007, HR radio stations played it an average of eleven times per week, placing it eleventh overall. The third single from Beyond Measure, titled “Give Me Jesus,” has made it into the top five most-played songs on Inspirational radio. “Give You Glory” is the title of the band’s fourth single, which debuted on Jewish AJ radio at position No. 16. In 2007, the song “Let It Fade” that he wrote and sang was the seventh most played song on HR radio. In the same year, he also published a two-disc set (CD and DVD) titled “Live Unplugged” for his concert tour, which was recorded in Franklin, Tennessee.
On the Christian CHR list that was compiled by R&R magazine in 2008, his song “No Matter What” was the fourth most played song overall. In addition to this, he released his brand new studio album titled Speaking Louder Than Before. The album features the chart-topping lead track “There Will Be a Day.” Jeremy Camp’s latest live album, titled Jeremy Camp Live, was released on November 17, 2009.
This collection of tracks contained Camp’s work from all of his prior albums. His previous album, Speaking Louder Than Before, earned him his first nomination for a Grammy. The RIAA has awarded the platinum certification to Beyond Measure. On August 24, 2010, the worship album titled We Cry Out was made available for purchase. In addition, Camp served as a judge for the tenth annual Independent Music Awards, an event that helps independent musicians advance their careers.
I Still Believe, Camp’s debut novel, was published into the world on May 20th, 2011. This biography of Camp sheds light on his childhood, the passing of his first wife, and where he believes God has brought him into his life. On February 12, 2013, Reckless was made available to the public. Since the release of his previous studio album, Speaking Louder Than Before, in 2008, Camp has not recorded an album in a studio until now. “Reckless” was the first single taken from the album to be made available for purchase and download.
In February 2013, a video was released alongside the track. After the release of “Reckless,” he released his second single, “My God,” which eventually peaked at number 5 on the Christian Songs Chart. In 2013, he also uploaded an acoustic version of the song “My God” to the Vevo Channel under his name. I Will Follow, Camp’s eighth studio album, was released on February 3, 2015, under his own label.
In September 2014, “He Knows,” the album’s lead single, was made available to the public. On October 6, 2017, Camp announced the release of his tenth studio album titled The Answer. In June 2017, “Word of Life” was issued as the album’s lead single.
