Jacob Michael Smolinski, ancob Michael Smolinski, was born on the 9th of February and is a 1left fielder in professional baseball. He played the position for several years. He was a member of the Texas Rangers, the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball (MLB), and the North Carolina Dinos of the Korean Baseball League (KBO League).
Born and reared in Rockford, Illinois, Smolinski had his high school education at Boylan Catholic High School, where he was also a standout quarterback for the school’s football team. When Smolinski played baseball, he played both shortstop and pitcher. During his final year, Smolinski had a batting average of.441, 13 home runs, and 49 RBIs.
Immediately after he graduated from high school, Smolinski was selected by the Washington Nationals in the second round of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft. He was elected to play left field and third base. On the 10th of November, 2008,, he was included in the trade that sent Josh Willingham and Scott Olsen to the Florida Marlins. Emilio Bonifacio and P. J. Dean were also included in the deal.
In December 2013, he signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers. On the 7th of July, 2014, Smolinski received his first call-up to the big leagues. On the 21st of June, 2015, the Oakland Athletics claimed Smolinski after gaining him off waivers. On the 15th of October, 2018, he said he was free to go.
On the 15th of November in 2018, Smolinski signed a deal with the Tampa Bay Rays to play in the minor leagues. Smolinski was permitted to seek alternatives in Korea on the 2nd of July, 2019, and he was released from Triple-A Durham later that same day. Smolinski signed his contract with the NC Dinos of the KBO League on the 2nd of July 2019. Following the conclusion of the season, he became a free agent.
Later on, Jake Smolinski would have a series of injuries, but he could overcome them to the point where he would become the first-position player from the NIC-10 to make it to the Major Leagues in the last eight decades. Additionally, he was a shortstop on our Rockford region’s all-time baseball list.
When Smolinski was younger, he was also an excellent wrestler and soccer player. However, he decided to stop participating in those activities while he was in high school. None of these things, however, could convince him to give up football even while he was receiving a beating. On a more frequent basis, they offered a hammering.
When Smolinski was a senior, he led the league in throwing with 1,105 yards. He also placed tenth in running with 540 yards and fourth in rushing touchdowns with nine. When Smolinski was a junior, he suffered such a severe injury in a game against Naperville Nequa Valley that he could not play for the subsequent three weeks.
Nevertheless, even though he has a promising future in baseball and was selected by the Washington Nationals in the second round, making him the highest-chosen player in Rockford’s history, Smolinski did not worry about being harmed while playing football.
The A’s gave themselves 12 position players by bringing back Smolinski from Triple-A Nashville before Sunday’s game. However, despite earning a position on the opening day roster, the outfielder struggled in limited playing time, as he batted just 118 in 34 at-bats before being optioned down on the 16th of May.
In 21 games, Smolinski has hit 260 with seven home runs and 12 RBIs. He is getting consistent playing time in Nashville and has rediscovered his stroke. During the time that he has been in the lower leagues, he has hit seven home runs, which would put him tied for third place in the Pacific Coast League.
Tuesday was the day that the Oakland Athletics brought the former Boylan shortstop up from Class AAA. Outfielder Smolinski was hitting the ball at the time. The A’s and Rangers combined for 427 with six home runs and 23 RBI in 25 games played at the AAA level. Smolinski was first selected by the Washington Nationals in the second draft round after graduating from high school. However, he was moved to the Florida Marlins in a transaction featuring Josh Willingham, who has hit 195 home runs in his extensive league career.
Even though injuries hampered him throughout his first few years with the Marlins, Smolinski reached the AAA level during his last season with the team. It had been seven years since he had been selected out of high school when the Marlins decided not to include him on their 40-man roster. As a result, he became a free agent in the minor leagues. However, Smolinski chose to begin his career with Texas instead of accepting the offer from the Marlins.
In 2014, the Rangers had a record number of injuries, which led to Smolinski’s call-up to the team. Despite hitting 389 in his first 11 games with Texas, Smolinski had an injury that forced him to go on the injured list. He was suffering from a bruised foot. His absence lasted almost two months, but on the 16th of September, he returned to the field and hit his first home run. At the end of his first season, Smolinski concluded with an on-base plus slugging percentage of.903 and a batting average of.349, three home runs, and twelve runs batted in inside 86 at-bats.
