Ivana Baquero Bio

Ivana Baquero Macas is a well-known Spanish actress. She was born on June 11th, 1994. She was cast as the lead role of Ofelia in Pan’s Labyrinth when she was just 11 years old, and for her performance in the film, she was honored with the Goya Award for Best New Actress. She was chosen to play the role of Eretria in the television series The Shannara Chronicles in the year 2015. At the age of eight, Baquero began her career as a professional actress, appearing in a number of films with very modest parts. The film that brought her the greatest attention was Fragile, in which she had a supporting part. She has had roles in a few more films, such as Romasanta and Rottweiler, among others. She has also made a few appearances on Spanish television during the course of her career.

Baquero was one of over one thousand young actresses considered for the part of Ofelia in the 2006 production of Pan’s Labyrinth. Baquero, who was 11 at the time, was cast in the role of Ofelia, which was initially written for a girl of the age of 8. However, the screenplay was changed so that Baquero could play the part. After that, she participated in a variety of initiatives while also continuing her education.

Her debut in the American film industry came in 2009 when she played the lead part in the horror movie The New Daughter, directed by John Connolly. In the first season of The Shannara Chronicles, which aired on MTV and was based on the Shannara book series written by Terry Brooks, Baquero played the role of Eretria. The second season of the show began airing in 2017. Ivana performed the part of Eva Villanueva in the Netflix drama High Seas from 2018 to 2020. There are not many directors who are as talented as Guillermo del Toro when it comes to the ability to create beautiful worlds and monsters. Guillermo del Toro is the genius behind many outstanding horror and fantasy storylines, such as those behind The Shape of Water or the Hellboy movies, to mention a few. He won the Academy Award for his work. After the premiere of his new original anthology horror series on Netflix, Cabinet of Curiosities, I decided it would be a good time to rewatch Pan’s Labyrinth, which the vast majority of his admirers see as being his actual greatest masterpiece.

In the 2006 Spanish-language period piece that was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, Ivana Baquero plays a little girl who is trying to escape the terrible reality of Spain during realm War II by embracing a dream realm that a mysterious faun swears is genuinely hers to govern. The film was set in Spain. The act of revisiting this masterwork after an absence of many years sparked a lot of intriguing reflections inside me, some of which I will now share with you in the following paragraphs. When we first meet Ivana Baquero’s character Ofelia, her mother Carmen informs her that she is too old to spend her time reading fairy tales. This instantly earned Carmen negative marks in my view, to be honest. Carmen is pregnant and sick at the time. I am aware that she has gone through a lot since the death of her husband and with the turmoil in her nation, but it is all the more reason for her to give her kid, regardless of how old she is, the amazing getaway she so richly deserves.

However, if I had to choose between Carmen and Captain Vidal as a father, I would much prefer to have Carmen as my parent. More on Captain Vidal to come. I have no doubt that everybody who saw Pan’s Labyrinth in 2006 anticipating another fantastic horror film from Guillermo del Toro received exactly what they wanted, but not in the manner that they anticipated at all. There is nothing in this whole movie that is more horrific than Sergi López’s portrayal of Captain Vidal, and that is despite the film having a visual that is reminiscent of a macabre fairy tale.

In the opinion of the vast majority of fans, the most terrifying moment occurs when Ofelia is forced to engage in combat with a hideous beast known as The Pale Man; yet, the scenario that occurs before this one had me somewhat more on edge. When wounded revolutionary Frenchie receives the dreadful news from Doctor Ferrerio that he will have to have his leg amputated, it sets off what seems like a lengthy amount of tension before he starts pushing the blade against his skin. This tension causes what feels like a prolonged amount of grief. As a horror lover, I genuinely enjoy Guillermo del Toro’s usage of an approach here that asks, “Who needs breathing room?” since it is devilish to place these moments one after the other in this order. Even with the understanding that it may simply be Ofelia’s imagination, the portrayal by Doug Jones as the Pale Man is one of the crucial elements that make the scene so horrific. Doug Jones is also as outstanding in his role as Fauno.

It is no wonder that Guillermo del Toro often rely on him to play characters that require heavy prosthetics, such as Abe Sapien in the Hellboy movies or the Amphibian Man in The Shape of Water, as well as the undead Billy Butcherson, whom he recently reprised in Hocus Pocus 2. He is one of the most versatile actors in the industry. This is not an original point of view, but I get very eager to see who or what he will bring to life next, and I want to see him portray many more fantastic and grotesque characters in the years to come. This is not an original point of view.

His callous demeanor is seen for the first time when he executes a pair of invaders who were claiming to be rabbit farmers, verifies that they were being truthful by discovering rabbit corpses on them, and then blames his subordinate for not inspecting them well enough before bringing the situation to his attention. I mean, before he went and murdered them in cold blood, couldn’t he have looked through their belongings himself? The correct response is “Yes.”
