Bio

Terry Gene Bollea (born August 11, 1953) is an American professional wrestler, actor, television personality, and musician best known for his time with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). In the 1980s and 1990s, Hogan was popular as the All-American character Hhe appeared on a talk show, where he sat next to Lou Ferrigno, star of the television series The Incredible Hulk. Terry, who stood 6 feet 7 inches tall, weighed 295 pounds and had 24-inch biceps, dwarfed “the Hulk,” according to the host. As a result, Bollea began to wrestle as Terry “The Hulk” Boulder and occasionally as Sterling Golden.

Bollea had an early shot at the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in May 1979, whose holder was widely regarded as the industry’s best at the time. Bollea defeated Ox Baker in June 1979 to win his first wrestling championship, the NWA Southeast Heavyweight Championship, which was recognized in Alabama and Tennessee. Wrestling Federation of the World (1979-1980).

Later that year, former NWA World Champion Terry Funk introduced Bollea to WWF President Vincent J. McMahon, who was impressed by his charisma and physical stature. McMahon gave Bollea the surname Hogan because he was obsessed with Irish surnames. Hogan wrestled Bob Backlund for the WWF Championship at this time, and he began his first major feud with André the Giant, which culminated in a match with André at Shea Stadium.

However, Sammartino/Zbyszko sold out every match they wrestled in the weeks leading up to the show. Before wrestling at Shea Stadium, Hogan and Andre competed in White Plains, New York, drawing 1,200 people in a building that could hold 3,500. (1981–1983) American Wrestling Association Hogan made his debut in the American Wrestling Association (AWA), owned by Verne Gagne, after filming his scene for Rocky III against McMahon’s wishes.

Hogan began his AWA career as a heel, with “Luscious” Johnny Valiant as his manager, but AWA audiences adored the muscular and more charismatic Hogan, and the AWA’s bookers were soon forced to turn Hogan face. Using “Eye of the Tiger” as his theme song, Hogan quickly became the promotion’s top babyface, and he engaged in a major feud with AWA World Champion Nick Bockwinkel and his manager Bobby Heenan throughout 1983. Gagne, on the other hand, continued to tease the AWA audience by booking a slew of screwjobs designed to keep the championship with Bockwinkel, a veteran of the territory

Gagne would not allow Hogan to be champion because he was not an “old school” technical wrestler. Hogan defeated Bockwinkel to win the title on several occasions, only to have the decision overturned later. This practise increasingly enraged fans, to the point where, according to Hogan’s autobiography and other books, one crowd nearly rioted until Hogan himself calmed them down. Hogan himself became dissatisfied with Verne Gagne’s refusal to give him a larger share of his merchandise sales.

Gagne was eventually ready to book Hogan to win the AWA title; however, according to Hogan, Gagne wanted a cut of the large sums of money Hogan was making from his frequent trips to Japan, as well as more control over the bookings Hogan took overseas. Hogan flatly refused, claiming he didn’t need the AWA title at the time. Also, according to Hogan’s autobiography, Verne wanted Hogan to marry into the family before granting him the AWA title. Hogan, unwilling to give up his life as a bachelor for the AWA world title, continued to decline the belt. Shortly after these attempts to entice Hogan into giving Gagne a larger cut of his profits and bookings in Japan, as well as attempts to bring him into th

McMahon, who had recently purchased the WWF from his ailing father. Over twenty years later, just prior to Hulk Hogan’s induction into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005, the revived AWA, under the authority of owner Dale Gagne (real last name: Gagner), relented and recognised the legitimacy of Hogan’s two title wins over Nick Bockwinkel, making him a two-time AWA champion.

This resolution, however, has been regarded as apocryphal by many because the resurrected AWA is widely regarded as a completely different entity than the Verne Gagne-owned AWA of old. As recently as the release of the DVD The Spectacular Legacy of the AWA, interviews between Hogan and Gaulk Hogan in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and as Hollywood Hogan, the heel leader of the New World Order, in World Championship Wrestling were made available (WCW). In 2005, Hogan was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. He was a member of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) from 2010 to 2013, where he served as the on-screen General Manager before departing following Dixie Carter’s infamous heel turn.

e is the second longest-reigning WWF Champion of all time (after Bruno Sammartino) and the longest-reigning of the 1980s, having held the title for 1,474 days from 1984 to 1988. With a 469-day reign from 1994 to 1995, his six combined reigns in WCW make him the longest-reigning WCW World Heavyweight Champion of all time. Hogan won the Royal Rumble twice in 1990 and 1991, making him the first man to do so.Hogan made his first appearance in Japan on May 13, 1980, while still a member of the WWF.

Over the next few years, he toured the country on occasion, facing opponents ranging from Tatsumi Fujinami to Abdullah the Butcherfans in the United States had grown accustomed to seeing from him. Another distinction is that in Japan, Hogan used a running forearm lariat (dubbed the “Axe Bomber”) as his finisher, as opposed to the running leg drop that has been his traditional finisher in the United States.

On June 2, 1983, Hogan became the first International Wrestling Grand Prix (IWGP) tournament winner, defeating Japanese wrestling legend Antonio Inoki in the finals of a 10-man tournament featuring top talent from around the world by knockout. Hogan and Inoki also worked together in Japan, where they won the prestigious MSG Tag League tournament two years in a row, in 1982 and 1983. Hogan’s popularity in Japan was so high that he recorded an album there, which served as a precursor to the World Wrestling Federation’s “Rock ‘n’ Wrestling” of the mid-1980s. Wrestling Federation of the World (1983–1993)

His main attraction due to his charisma and name recognition. On December 27, 1983, Hogan made his return to the WWF by defeating Bill Dixon at a television taping in St. Louis, Missouri. Hogan was initially a heel, working with veteran wrestler-turned-manager “Classy” Freddie Blassie, but this was short-lived. Hogan saved Bob Backlund from a three-way attack on the January 7, 1984 episode of Championship Wrestling. Backlund explained Hogan’s turn simply: ”

He’s made a 180-degree turn. He’s a wonderful man. He’s said he’s not going to have Blassie around “.. The storyline shortcut was necessary because Hogan won his first WWF Championship less than three weeks later, on January 23, pinning The Iron Sheik (who had Blassie in his corner) in Madison Square Garden. The victory was accompanied by the storey that Hogan was a “last-minute” replacement for the Sheik’s original opponent, Bob Backlund, and became champion by being the first man to escape the Iron Sheik’s signature move, the camel clutch. Immediately following the title win, commentator Gorilla Monsoon declared,

“Hulkamania has arrived!” In interviews, Hogan frequently referred to his fans as “Hulkamaniacs” and introduced his three “demands”: training, praying, and eating vitamins. Following his feud with Earthquake in the 1990s, a fourth demanding (believing in oneself) was eventually added. Hogan’s ring gear took on a distinctive yellow-and-red color scheme, and his ring entrances involved him ritualistically ripping his shirt off his body, flexing, and exaggeratingly listening for audience cheers.

During this time, the majority of Hogan’s matches involved him wrestling heels who had been booked as unstoppable monsters, in a format that became almost routine: Hogan would deliver steady offense, but eventually lose momentum, appearing to be on the verge of defeat. He’d then get a second wind, fighting back while “feeding” off the audience’s energy, becoming impervious to attack—a process known as “hulking up.” His signature moves, the big boot, and the Atomic Leg Drop would come next, ensuring his victory.

Over the next year, as McMahon pushed the WWF into a pop culture enterprise with The Rock ‘n’ Wrestling Connection on MTV, Hulk Hogan became the face of pro wrestling, attracting record labels, pay-per-view buyrates, and television ratings. Hogan teamed with a real-life friend Mr. T to defeat his archrival “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff at the first WrestleMania on March 31, 1985. Hogan successfully defended the WWF title against Cowboy Bob Orton in the first-ever Saturday Night’s Main Event, which Hogan won by disqualification. Hogan was portrayed as a real-life superhero in the process while reaching out to young fans.

He was named the most requested celebrity of the 1980s for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, a children’s charity. As a result, Hogan transformed the company into a sports entertainment spectacle that drew prime-time viewers of all ages and backgrounds. Hulkamania, as Hulk Hogan action figures and T-shirts began to appear in malls across the country, had never been seen before in the industry. cartoon, Hulk Hogan’s Rock ‘n’ Wrestling. During this lucrative run, Hogan went on to headline eight of the first nine WrestleMania events, and he also co-hosted Saturday Night Live on March 30, 1985
