Harris Yulin Bio

Harris Yulin was born on the 5th of November in the year 1937 in the city of Los Angeles, California, and he was raised in a Jewish family. Both Linda Stirling and Sloan Nibley, who both passed away as actresses, were his cousins. Yulin was able to acquire the services of a drama coach with the assistance of his father, who was a dentist in Los Angeles and had made professional connections with a variety of individuals in Hollywood. After graduating from college, he moved to Italy for a while in order to pursue a career in the arts, much like his friends who were also doing so at the time. On the other hand, he has stated in more recent times that he was “very bad.”

He dated his ‘Doc’ co-star Faye Dunaway for three years, from 1970 to 1972. His marriage to the actress Gwen Welles, which lasted from 1975 to 1993, began with the exchanging of wedding vows in 1975. They remained married till she passed away on October 13, 1993, from cancer after which they divorced. Yulin and actress Kristen Lowman exchanged vows on September 11, 2005, and the wedding was attended by family and friends. Harris Yulin is a well-known American actor who has been in a number of notable films and television shows, including “Scarface,” “Ghostbusters II,” “Clear and Present Danger,” “Looking for Richard,” “Training Day,” “Frasier,” “24,” and “Ozark.”

Over the course of his career which has spanned half a century, he has been in more than a hundred different movies and television shows. Additionally, he has had a very noticeable presence on stage. Since making his debut on Broadway in 1980 in a production of ‘Watch on the Rhine’ at the John Golden Theatre, Yulin has given a number of stage performances that have left a lasting impression on audiences on both sides of the Atlantic. He began his career as an actor in the theatre before making his first appearance on television in the 1970 comedy-drama ‘End of the Road.’ He was born and raised in California.

In the Western film ‘Doc,’ which was released the following year, he played the famed lawman Wyatt Earp, which brought him a tremendous amount of attention and recognition. In 1996, he was considered for a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for the role he played on the show Frasier. Yulin was nominated for an Obie Award for his performance in 2007 for his appearance as Sullivan in the first production of Richard Nelson’s play, ‘Frank’s Home.’ The award was presented to him for this performance. In addition, he was awarded the Lucille Lortel Award in 2006 for directing the revival of the play ‘A Trip to Bountiful’ by Horton Foote in 2005.

Harris Yulin got his start in the entertainment industry as an actor and director while he was living in Tel Aviv in the 1960s. Prior to that, he had spent a significant amount of time traveling throughout Europe and Israel. It was in 1963 when he made his debut in New York, performing in James Saunders’ production of “Next Time I’ll Sing.” His first role on Broadway was as Teck de Brancovis in the 1980 production of “Watch on the Rhine” by the John Golden Theatre. Even though he has a successful career in Hollywood, he is still active in the theater today, working on a number of different projects.

Since making his Broadway debut, he has appeared in a number of shows on the stage, some of which include “The Visit,” “The Diary of Anne Frank,” “The Price,” and “Hedda Gabler.” In the year 2010, he went to Dublin, Ireland, to perform in Arthur Miller’s “Death of a Salesman” at the Gate Theatre. There, he took on the role of William Willy Loman, the play’s protagonist. End of the Road is a 1970 comedy-drama film directed by Aram Avakian and based on John Barth’s novel of the same name, which was published in 1958.

Harris Yulin made his debut in the film in this role. In the same year, he also made an appearance in the indie drama film titled “Maidstone” as well as the television film titled “Neither Are We Enemies.” In the Western film ‘Doc’, released in 1971, he played the role of Wyatt Earp, starring alongside Stacy Keach as Doc Holliday and Faye Dunaway as Kate Elder. In 1978, he was cast in the role of Deek Peasley for six episodes of the second season of the western-drama series ‘How the West Was Won’, which was broadcast on ABC.

Scarface, the crime drama directed by Brian De Palma and starring Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer, was one of his projects in 1983. Yulin and Pacino worked together once more on the documentary that Pacino directed in 1996 titled “Looking for Richard.” In 1989, he played the role of Judge Stephen Wexler in the fantasy comedy ‘Ghostbusters II,’ which was produced and directed by Ivan Reitman. In the 1994 action-drama “Clear and Present Danger,” in which Yulin played the part of a crooked national security adviser, he appeared on screen alongside Harrison Ford, Willem Dafoe, and Anne Archer.

In 1997, he had a role in the comedy film titled “Bean,” which was the first film adaptation of the well-known humorous creation of Rowan Atkinson, Mr. Bean. Yulin was given the role of a Secret Service Agent in the ‘Rush Hour film series’ second installment (2001), which was released in the year 2001. In the same year, he appeared in the crime drama “Training Day,” which went on to win an Academy Award. In addition to receiving a nomination for a Primetime Emmy for his appearance in the comedy series ‘Frasier,’ he was also considered for a CableACE Award in the category of Guest Actor in a Dramatic Special or Series in 1997 for the series ‘La Femme Nikita,’ which aired on both CTV and USA Network.

Between the years 1999 and 2002, he appeared as Quentin Travers in three different episodes of the supernatural action-drama series ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ that was shown on The WB. It was during the second season (2002-03) of the Fox series ’24’ that he was cast in the role of Roger Stanton, the Director of the National Security Agency. In the first and second seasons of the Netflix series ‘Ozark’ (2017-18), he played the role of the Byrde family’s renter who was nearing the end of his life.

In 2019, he became a member of the cast of the comedy-drama series ‘Divorce’ which airs on HBO. It has been announced that he would play a leading role in the upcoming short film “Double Trouble” (Completed). Despite having such a lengthy and successful acting career, Harris Yulin is one of the very few character performers who has avoided becoming typecast throughout his career. The experienced actor was reportedly jokingly described by film critic Jim Emerson as being someone who “should be in every movie ever made.”
