Gorilla Zoe Bio

Alonzo Keith Mathis Jr. was born on January 27, 1981, but is best known by his stage name, Gorilla Zoe (pronounced /zo/). He is a rapper from the United States who is originally from East Point, Georgia. The fact that he was in the rap group Boyz N the Hood brought him the majority of his fame. His first solo album, titled Welcome to the Zoo, was released the same year in 2007.

The years 2009 and 2011 saw the release of his subsequent two albums, titled Don’t Feed Da Animals and King Kong. Recovery and Raised in the Jungle were both released as mixtapes by him in the year 2015. He has been an independent artist since 2018. Mathis took over for Young Jeezy in Boyz N Da Hood in 2006 when Jeezy was kicked out of the group. His initial collaborations with Yung Joc, “Coffee Shop” and “Bottle Poppin’,” both of which peaked on multiple Billboard charts, were where he saw his first taste of success. After that, he became a solo artist after getting signed to Bad Boy South and Block Entertainment.

Gorilla Zoe debuted his debut single, “Hood Figga,” on April 24, 2007. The song was a commercial success, reaching its highest position on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 38. His first solo album, titled Welcome to the Zoo, was released in October of 2007, and it reached its highest position on the Billboard 200 chart in the position of #18. It also peaked at #8 on the list of Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and at #3 on the list of Top Rap Albums. Along with artists Saigon, Plies, Rich Boy, Joell Ortiz, Lupe Fiasco, Lil Boosie, Crooked I, Papoose, and Young Dro, Gorilla Zoe was selected for the 2008 XXL Freshmen cover in 2007.

The first song to be taken from Gorilla Zoe’s upcoming second album, “Lost” was made available for purchase on October 7, 2008. On March 17, 2009, the whole album Don’t Feed da Animals was made available, and it immediately climbed to the top of the Billboard Top Rap Albums chart. It reached its highest position on the Billboard 200 chart at number eight after its first week of release when it sold 29,000 copies. Later on, a second single from the album titled “What It Is” featuring Rick Ross and Colossus was made available, and after that, a third single titled “Echo” was made available.

In February of 2010, Gorilla Zoe uploaded a new mixtape to the website dedicated to mixtapes known as DatPiff.com on a daily basis. He came out with an extended play titled “I Am Atlanta 3.” In addition to that, he collaborated with fellow members of Die-Verse City Qu1k on a mixtape. King Kong was the third solo album published by Gorilla Zoe, and it was released on June 14, 2011. Even though it wasn’t quite as popular as his prior albums, it still managed to chart on the Billboard 200 at position #56 and sell 10,300 copies in its first week.

The album received three and a half stars out of a possible five from Allmusic. The song “What’s Goin’ On” was taken from the album and was released as a single on December 14, 2010. It reached its highest position on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart at #99. After a two-year absence, on May 6, 2014, Gorilla Zoe returned with a new mixtape titled Recovery. At the same time, it was announced that he had signed a contract with the record company International Music Group, which is owned by the rapper Flo Rida.

“Fat Jesus” was Gorilla Zoe’s first single as a self-released independent artist, and it was released in July 2018. Gorilla Zoe is an Atlanta rapper who has a style that is reminiscent of that of Young Jeezy, the member of the Bad Boy duo Boyz n’ da Hood that he replaced. Gorilla Zoe’s music features a raspy voice, a slow flow, simplistic rhymes, and a focus on cocaine in the lyrics. The song “Coffee Shop,” which was released in 2007 and was a hit for Bad Boy labelmate Yung Joc, gave Gorilla Zoe his first taste of commercial success.

Shortly after that, he released his first single as a solo artist, titled “Hood Nigga,” and shortly after that, he also released his debut album, titled Welcome to the Zoo. Back-Up n’ da Chevy, the debut studio album by Gorilla Zoe as a member of Boyz n’ da Hood after Jeezy’s departure and subsequent replacement by Gorilla Zoe, was issued the following year, in 2007. The album gave rise to a number of songs, the most successful of which were “Everybody Know Me” and “We Ready.”

Don’t Feed da Animals, the full-length album was released in March 2009, and it debuted at number one on the rap charts and broke into the top ten on the Billboard 200. The single “Lost,” which was a collaboration with Lil Wayne, was released in the latter half of 2008.  In 2010, he issued a total of 28 distinct mixtapes, one on a daily basis over the whole month of February, in addition to the single “Just Like My Chevy.” King Kong, his attempt geared toward club audiences, was released in 2011. 2015 saw the release of subsequent mixtapes such as Recovery and Raised in the Jungle. In 2017, he released a new album that served as a successor to Don’t Feed da Animals.

Hip hop artist Alonzo Mathis, better known by his stage name Gorilla Zoe, is a native of Atlanta, Georgia, and hails from the United States. Mathis first gained recognition for his work as a supporting vocalist for Young Joc on a number of tracks, including Coffee Shop and Bottle Poppin’, which charted on the Billboard charts in a variety of categories. Mathis is a member of the Bad Boy Records group Boyz n da Hood, in which he succeeded Young Jeezy. It was released in October of 2007 and reached its highest position on the Billboard Top 200 chart at number 18. It also reached number 3 on the list of Top Rap Albums and number 8 on the list of Top R&B Albums.
