Her grandparents were also named Gershon. She had an older brother named Dan and an older sister named Tracy as she was growing up in her Jewish household.

In Los Angeles, she attended “Collier Street Elementary School” and then went on to “Woodland Hills Academy” for her primary and secondary school, respectively. In 1980, Gina graduated from ‘Beverly Hills High School,’ where she had attended all four years of high school. It was about this time that she, at the age of 14, began to develop an interest in acting. The film “Cocktail” was one of Gina Gershon’s initial successes, and it was a box office smash . The film’s production cost was estimated to be $20 million, but it ended up grossing more than $171 million at the box office.

The suspense film “Face/Off,” which Gershon starred in and directed in 1997, was a huge hit. After finishing her high school education, Gershon made the decision to join the illustrious “Emerson College” in the city of Boston. Despite this, her passion for performing compelled her to change her school to ‘New York University.’ She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1983 with concentrations in the fields of drama, psychology, and philosophy.

After enrolling in New York’s ‘Square Professional Theater School,’ Gina Gershon initially began performing on stage. This was the beginning of her acting career. Later on in her career, she became one of the co-founders of the American theatre company known as “Naked Angels.” In the subsequent few years of her film career, the actress was met with a variety of successes and failures. “Face/Off”  was an enormous commercial success. Her earliest film roles were as uncredited dancers in movies such as “Beatlemania”  and “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” These roles helped her break into the industry.

The film “Pretty in Pink” served as the venue for the debut of the actress in a role for which she received credit. The film “Stark: Mirror Image” and the television series “The Twilight Zone” marked her first appearances on television after that. Following the triumph of her first major box office hit, “Cocktail,” which she released in 1988, Gina Gershon went on to star in another hit film, “The City of Hope”. She was also becoming a recognized face on television as a result of her critically acclaimed performances in television programs such as “Melrose Place”.In the 1990s, Gina rose to the level of an icon in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.
