Bio

Eli Manning, also known as Elisha Nelson Manning, is an American football quarterback who competes for the National Football League’s New York Giants. Eli Manning started his career in college football as a member of the Ole Miss Rebels football team, which represents the University of Mississippi. He is the son of Archie Manning, a well-known former NFL quarterback. He had received several honours by the time he completed his senior year, including the Maxwell Award for being the finest all-around player in the nation. The San Diego Chargers selected him in the NFL draught shortly after graduating, but he was quickly moved to the Giants. In addition to being a great player during his career, he ended up being one of just four quarterbacks in NFL history to amass at least 45,000 career yards, 300 touchdowns, four Pro Bowl appearances, and two Super Bowl victories.

He is also well renowned for his charitable endeavours, such as helping Hurricane Katrina victims. Additionally, he contributed to funding The Eli Manning Children’s Clinics. He co-wrote the book “Family Huddle” with his brother Peyton and father Archie. The Manning brothers’ early football careers are described in the book’s text and illustrated with images. In the year 2000, Eli Manning enrolled at the University of Mississippi. After four years of participation with his alma mater’s football club, the Ole Miss Rebels, he had amassed a throwing stat line of 10,119 yards and 81 touchdowns. Over the next several seasons, his performance remained inconsistent. He finished the 2016 campaign with a career throwing total of 48,214 yards and 320 touchdowns.

He and Larry Fitzgerald shared the 2017 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award in February. Two players shared the trophy for the first time since the 2006-2007 campaign. Manning had a 2-2 record at the start of his senior year. He had 1,329 throwing yards, 11 touchdowns, and four interceptions during that time, winning over Vanderbilt and Louisiana-Monroe while losing to Memphis and Texas Tech.  A six-game winning run for the Rebels saw them defeat notable SEC foes #24 Florida, #47 Alabama, #48 Arkansas, #21 South Carolina, and #50 Auburn.

Manning threw for 1,552 yards, 12 touchdowns, and four interceptions during the winning run. With 259 throwing yards and two touchdowns, he helped the Rebels to a 10-3 overall record to a 31-28 SBC Cotton Bowl Classic victory against #21 Oklahoma State in 2003.  Ole Miss had their first ten-win season under Manning since 1971. With victories of 38-16 over Memphis and 31-3 over Louisiana-Monroe, Manning’s junior season got off to a promising start. Manning combined for one interception and four throwing touchdowns in those two games.

Manning completed 374 passes for 374 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception against Texas Tech in the next game, a 42-28 defeat.  After winning their next three games against Vanderbilt, No. 6 Florida, and Arkansas State, Ole Miss was ranked #21 in the AP Poll. During that time, Manning had five touchdowns and one interception. A five-game losing run in the second part of the season changed the course of the Rebels’ season.

Manning completed 42 of 56 throws for 414 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in a 48-28 defeat against Arkansas during this span. He also scored on a running play. Manning’s 414 throwing yards were his highest total throughout his collegiate career. With a 6-6 record and a matchup against Nebraska in the Independence Bowl, the Rebels advanced after defeating rival Mississippi State 24-12.  In the 27-23 triumph, Manning threw for 313 yards and one touchdown.  Manning concluded his junior season with 3,401 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions.

Manning received numerous honors after his senior year, including the Maxwell Award for the best all-around player in the country, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete Award, the Sporting News Radio Socrates Award, and the SEC Most Valuable Player Award. Additionally, he ran for the 2003 Heisman Trophy, coming in third place behind quarterback Jason White and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald in the vote. Like his father, Manning belonged to the Sigma Nu fraternity, and in 2001 and 2003, he was honored as the organization’s Athlete of the Year.

He was third in the Heisman Trophy race during his senior year and earned the Maxwell award as the nation’s greatest all-around athlete. He was also voted the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year as a result of his outstanding performance. The San Diego Chargers chose him as the first overall choice in the 2004 NFL Draft. He was promptly moved to the New York Giants since he didn’t want to play for them. He committed to the Giants for a six-year, $45 million deal.

Although his first season with the Giants wasn’t very noteworthy, he was appointed the starter the next year, and he helped the club to a 2-0 record by beating the Cardinals and Saints. However, despite Eli’s very great performance, they lost the next game against the San Diego Chargers.

His assistance allowed the group to compete in Super Bowl XLII in 2007, when they took against the New England Patriots. The Giants won the game, and Manning was named the contest’s Most Valuable Player. Eli and his brother Peyton became the first siblings to earn Super Bowl MVPs with the triumph. The next year, he performed a little better than average, finishing the campaign with a career-high 4,021 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, a 62.3 completion percentage, and a passer rating of 93.1.

He also performed well in the 2010 campaign. Although the Giants beat the Washington Redskins with his assistance in the season’s last game, his group was unable to go to the SuperBowl, which the Green Bay Packers eventually won. Despite having a rough start to the 2011 season, the Giants eventually turned things around and made it into the Super Bowl XLVI. The Giants won after defeating the Patriots by a score of 21-17 to claim victory in the game.
