David Joel Williams is an Australian professional footballer who was born on February 26, 1988. He now plays as a striker for the team known as Perth Glory. Williams is the first Indigenous Australian footballer to ever suit up for the A-League team Melbourne City. Williams is from the Northern Territory. In addition to that, he played twice for Australia’s national team.
Williams made his debut in the professional football league with the Queensland Roar after beginning his career as a young player at the Queensland Academy of Sport. Williams was born in Brisbane. Williams has been a member of a number of Australian Football League teams, including the Queensland Roar, the North Queensland Fury, Sydney FC, Melbourne City, and the Wellington Phoenix.
Williams has previously played professionally in Europe for the clubs Brndby of the Danish Superliga (Denmark) and Haladás of the Hungarian NB I. After spending time in training with Belgian team Club Brugge and Premier League club Liverpool, he signed a contract with Australian A-League side Queensland Roar in January 2006 for the balance of the 2005–06 season. Before that, he trained with the Belgian club Club Brugge.
The coach of the Queensland Roar, Miron Bleiberg, has referred to Williams as the greatest Australian prospect since Harry Kewell. Also, the former technical director of the Australian national team, Ron Smith, has referred to Williams as the finest young Australian striker. After appearing in two matches as a substitute for Roar, he left the country in May 2006 to sign a three-year deal to play for the Danish outfit Brndby IF. After scoring 12 goals for the reserve team in five matches, Williams was promoted to the main squad at Brndby and made his debut on August 5 against AC Horsens. Williams’ first team debut came under the direction of Brndby head coach Rene Meulensteen.
Williams scored his first goal for the Brndby first team in the Superliga on November 11 during the home match against Silkeborg IF. During the European competition for the UEFA Cup, he also competed against the Eintracht Frankfurt team from Germany. Williams scored two more goals for Brndby in their victory against Hammarby IF of Sweden in the Royal League match on November 30. Both goals contributed to Brndby’s victory over the Swedes. With Marc Olsen, Williams was elevated to the Brndby first-team squad in December 2006 after being brought in by the newly appointed manager of Brndby, Tom Khlert.
During the 2006–2007 Superliga season, Williams was a member of Brndby and participated in a total of 19 games. He scored one goal for the team. During the 2007–08 Superliga season, he was on the Brndby roster for 10 games and scored three goals for the team. Williams got off to a good start in the 2008–09 Danish season, as he featured in five of Brndby’s first six Superliga games and scored a goal against FC Haka in the UEFA Cup. In addition, Williams participated in all of Brndby’s games in the Danish Cup. In September of 2008, he signed a contract extension with Brndby that kept him at the club until the summer of 2011.
When Williams returned to fitness after the turn of the year, newly hired Brndby trainer Kent Nielsen left him out the side. He had damaged his knee in a training incident in September of 2008, and when Williams returned to fitness after the turn of the year, Nielsen did not include him. Williams’ anger at the fact that he was not playing led to an outburst in public in June 2009, during which he threatened to quit the club if he was not given playing time within the next three weeks. In response, Brndby loaned him to the South African team Bidvest Wits for a trial.
In the 2009–10 A-League season, he signed a loan agreement to play for the North Queensland Fury FC. In January of the following year, he secured a permanent contract to play with the Fury. On February 16, 2011, Sydney FC acquired Williams from the Fury on a loan for their AFC Champions League 2011 campaign. The loan was for a brief period of time. During the disappointing season, in which Sydney FC placed third in the group, he played a total of four times for the team.
In all, he had four appearances. On June 22, 2011, he put pen to paper on a three-year contract with the Australian Football League team Melbourne Heart (now known as Melbourne City FC).On March 20, 2014, he extended his current agreement with the Heart by two years, which would keep him playing with the team until the conclusion of the 2015–16 season. Williams participated in the 2014 A-League All-Stars Game on Sunday, August 10, 2014. He replaced Alessandro Del Piero in the 63rd minute of the match, which was Del Piero’s last game in Australia. Williams came in as a replacement for the match. In January of 2016, Williams was let go from his position with the club.
His selection to both of Australia’s teams for the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship in the Netherlands and the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Championship in Peru is what brought him the most attention. However, because the World Youth Championship (U-20) was held before the U-17 World Championship, Williams was ruled ineligible to play in Peru, leaving Australia with only 19 members in its U-17 World Championship squad. He was ruled ineligible to play in Peru because the World Youth Championship (U-20) was held before the U-17 World Championship
The midfielder, who was born in Sunderland, was capped for the Lionesses a total of 161 times, with her last appearance coming as a substitute in the European Championship final match against Germany at Wembley Stadium. There have been new rumors that she may take on a coaching job with the youth team of her previous club, Man City.
But, she will be returning to playing in front of fans for the UNICEF Charity match that will take place this summer. The match will pit a combined squad from the rest of the world against England, and both teams’ XIs will be comprised of former players and celebrities. On the field, Scott will be reunited not just with Carney but also with Eni Aluko, a forward who played with the Lionesses in the past. After his retirement from professional football in 2020, Aluko became a member of the 100-cap club. He played his last game in 2020.
