Pierre David Guetta was born on November 7th, 1967, in Paris, France. His mother is of Belgian ancestry, and his sociologist father came from a Moroccan Jewish family. On his father’s side, Bernard and Nathalie are his half-brothers and sisters, and on his mother’s side, Dominique and Joelle are his half-sisters. From 1992 until 2014, Guetta was married to Cathy Lobe, who ran nightclubs. Tim Elvis Eric, their son, and Angie, their daughter, are their offspring.
Guetta started out in the music industry as a disc jockey in the 1980s. In 1987, he heard house music on the radio in France and soon after started throwing club nights. He teamed up with French rapper Sidney Duteil to release the hip-hop album “Nation Rap” in 1990. He kept performing at renowned French clubs and in 1994, he and American house vocalist Robert Owens produced their second collaboration, “Up & Away.” Guetta took over management of the Le Palace Club the same year. His debut single, “Just a Little More Love,” was released in 2001, and he co-founded the record label Gum Productions with Joachim Garraud that same year.
Guetta’s debut album of the same name was released the following year. His further albums, “Guetta Blaster” and “Pop Life,” were released after this (2007). Hit tracks including “When Love Takes Over,” “Gettin’ Over You,” “Sexy Bitch,” and “Memories” were featured on his 2009 album titled “One Love.” This accomplishment solidified his place in the music industry and catapulted him to the ranks of the world’s most popular DJs. With the success of “7,” he released the similarly successful “Nothing but the Rhythm” in 2011. Among the artists who worked on these albums with the producer and rapper were Sia, J Balvin, Jason Derulo, G-Eazy, Nicki Minaj, and many more.
At roughly the same period, Guetta began using the alias “Jack Back,” under which he releases music in the same underground Electronic Dance Music style as his early work. As the official music ambassador for the 2016 U.E.F.A. Euro, he wrote and produced “This One’s For You,” which included Zara Larsson’s vocals. He has also put out 11 compilation albums, three extended plays, ninety singles, and forty-two music videos in addition to his studio albums.
He has remixed chart toppers by Kylie Minogue, Bob Sinclair, Charlie Puth, Bebe Rexha, and Bad Bunny, and he has written and produced music for The Black Eyed Peas, Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, and Rihanna. In 2019, he co-founded the “Future Rave” movement with fellow producer MORTEN, which features an innovative take on electronic dance music. The following year, they dropped an EP called “New Rave,” perfect for listening to in isolation throughout the pandemic.
At least 30 prizes, including the American Music Award, Billboard Music Award, Grammy Award, Teen Choice Award, three MTV Europe Music Awards, and eleven International Dance Music Awards, have been bestowed to him. His concerts consistently rank as some of the most anticipated events of the year.
David Guetta, a French electronic music producer, rode the crest of a glittering wave of DJs at the turn of the millennium who fused Daft Punk’s smooth dance music with a sprinkle of electroclash punch. In 2020, he dropped the extended play New Rave and collaborated with Sia on the infectious synth-wave/pop smash “Let’s Love.”
The artist born Pierre David Guetta had been touring France as a DJ, spinning top 40 hits, but in 1987, after hearing a Farley Jackmaster Funk track, something clicked in his brain. He recorded the song, took a copy to a performance, and then used it to completely destroy the dance floor during one of his own sets.
When acid house arrived in France and Guetta successfully promoted his own club nights a year later, things began to relax. In 1992, while on tour in Europe, he happened to cross paths with Robert Owens, a dance music star from Chicago. Owens chose to sing over one of Guetta’s own songs after hearing several of them. Over the following four years, “Up and Away” sat dormant in the record collections of garage DJs despite becoming a moderate success.
The DJ didn’t put out anything until 2001 with “Just a Little More Love,” since he believes he can only make decent music when he’s just chilling out. Chris Willis, an American gospel vocalist, was featured on the single after he and Guetta met in Paris. Another sluggish jam that continued turning up in sets over the next two years was “Just a Little More Love,” first in an electro rendition and then in a pumped-up Wally Lopez remix.
At this time, Guetta released a cover version of “Heroes” by David Bowie under the name “Only for One Day.” Bowie approved the song’s official release, and it quickly became a major smash for Guetta. The freed boot was featured on Guetta’s debut mix CD, Fuck Me I’m Famous, which was titled after his popular club in Ibiza.
In 2004, the carefree DJ dropped Just a Little More Love on Astralwerks, a compilation of his original music. Guetta Blaster and Poplife both debuted in 2006. The latter album featured lead vocals by Chris Willis and spawned several international dance singles. After that, in July of 2008, Fuck Me I’m Famous: International, Vol. 2 was published, offering fans a taste of the chic tunes that Guetta had been playing at his Ibiza club events that summer. A year later, he dropped One Love, a platinum-selling album that included the hit songs “When Love Takes Over” with Kelly Rowland and Chris Willis, and “Sexy Bitch” featuring Akon.
